Feb this year ranged from -2 to -15 whilst we were there. It was very dry though which made it more bearable but when the wind blew you couldn't smile because your teeth hurt! I really enjoyed it though and Central Park in the snow was beautiful.0

FWIW there's monthly climate data for tons of places in the USA here:

Thanks. always useful to look past the temprature charts, and get real experiences. Would you say the weather restricted you in any way,- as in being too cold to do certain things or attractions being closed for example.
Also, would you visit again at that time of year?0 -

230 Fifth is not on top of the Flatiron, but quite close, they are about 4 blocks apart on 5th Ave.
Would second a stroll along the High Line, and if you're in that area, there are plenty of good bars and restaurants around the Meatpacking district. As greenface mentions, Lower Manhattan around Wall Street and down to Battery Park, is an increasingly interesting area with more bars etc springing up.
Enjoy Yankee Stadium, will be an especially good atmosphere if they are playing the Red Sox.0 -

Outside of winter storms it is generally in the range on -5 to +5C. As mentioned above, it is the wind that really gets you when it is up, but when it is dry and crisp sunshine, it's pretty nice. Your biggest risk at that time of year with the weather is if you are flying in/out when a snowstorm hits, there will be inevitable delays. NYC itself will be fine, they are pretty efficient at clearing the streets, at least in central Manhattan. For going up the high buildings like ESB and TOTR, best to wait for clear days, but there are plenty of those in winter too.
Those points aside, nothing wrong with going in Feb, I would personally go at any time of year (and pretty much have), it's a slightly different experience each time. In winter you get the outdoor ice rinks all around NYC. It's also cheaper, especially for hotels.0 -
Thanks a lot. Lots of good points. Well, we've been in spring and Autumn, and had great holidays but different experiences. I actually think October was our favourite visit! Might be time to visit in winter:)
I think we're going to go for it. Thanks again.0 -

Hi, I'm also on a Thomas Cook Flight from Manchester, same flight number, we found out (can't remember how) it's an A330. Hopefully one of their new fleet for this route.
This is the seat Guru page for that plane, but please don't take my info as gospel, this is what we think it is!

We have booked row 9 H and K for the way out.0 -
hi, what date are you going were out on the 6th june for a week.
can't wait now, looking at booking hotels, have you booked anything yet?0 -
Hi Saint_Chris, yes we are all booked! We fly on June 15th for 2 weeks, but not staying in NY all that time. We have 4 nights in New York, staying in Long Island City: http://home2suites3.hilton.com/en/hotels/new-york/home2-suites-by-hilton-new-york-long-island-city-manhattan-view-ny-ISPMVHT/index.html
We booked it when it first opened last June, and got a real bargain at $150 a night fully cancelleable.
then we take the train to Washington DC for 1 night, fly to Buffalo for Niagara (2 nights), fly to Boston (1 night), pick up a car and drive to the White Mountains 2 nights, 2 nights Bar harbor, 1 night Boothbay Harbor, then fly back to NY for last night and full day,
Phew! Can't wait for it all, we booked the flights last May so it's been a long time in the planning.0
