Any advice would be gratefully appreciated as always.
What a fabulous detailed post, you don't need me to tell you that you have a valid claim but I will..... You have a valid claim, I can imagine you have already read Vaubans guide also, so what else would you like to know?
I can't tell you how to spend your compensation, but Vauban could do with a nice new hat!?! old in-joke

And very especially not EC if your flight was not involved with a bird strike
Yes, I know that you have very strong views on this
@Neil and Claire if you read onwards from this post https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4384583
you will see a debate about bird strikes.... I think you have a valid claim, but more from the point the bird strike didn't actually affect your flight, so I do agree with razorsedge. After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

Many thanks 111KAB, razoredge & NoviceAngel! I think I needed a bit of reassurance that it was still a valid claim and Thomson were talking rubbish. She knocked my confidence a bit
I have the N1 ready and will have a go at DIY - just a couple of questions..... how do I calculate the 8% interest and do I go back to the date of delay ?
Thanks as always0 -

Credit to Vauban for this, here's the answer to your interest question yes, and https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money/work-out-interest page 7 of this forum 'Taking the airlines to court' thread well worth a read... https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4507307

The telephone number for the Directors office is 0203 636 1604. I haven't tried this number myself but I did read it on the forum a while ago and made a note of it. Maybe you will get answered next time? Let us know please if this number works. Good luck.
Hi
The best number to use is 02476 282828., I spoke to a lovely lady named Emma - apparently I'm on day 21 of 56!
I tried the Director's office but was just given the email to Aftersales.0 -
Thank you! Just looked at that link! Apparently the bird strike happened on the Dreamliner the previous day! So I believe Thompson didn't do everything they possibly could to stop the delay!!!0

It is possible to find out if a bird strike really did happen or if they are lying to you. Remember that by criminal law (under the Air Navigation Order) bird strikes must be reported to the CAA.

Have a read of this post and follow the links back for more details on obtaining bird strike information.

Blimey you certainly know a thing or two about bird strikes! I don't think I'll comment on them from now on, I'm out of my league!
Thanks for pointing your expertise out
