I have suggested a different option to Andrea.

The daily thread to be a sticky on the main comp board with direct links to the competitions as Cornish Pasty's mag thread. A post which has the links to the daily mags, daily thread, daily RC thread, Weekly & Monthly threads should be made & locked which gets bumped around the forum by the BG's &/Or the people who look after the daily threads, so this locked information post goes round the main comp board all day & evening.

This way will keep the main competitions board free from lots of extra posts, will be less work for the person who looks after the daily mag thread & people will be able to link directly to the mags again.

I do believe it's not just a problem with the daily mag comps but all regular comps. There are a huge amount of people who do not know where any of the regular comp boards are & with this option the information will be there for everyone to access.

They were not on a sub-forum they were on a stickied thread on the main board in plain view of everybody - just like the comping guide and all the other stickies.
Everybody had made a personal choice to look or not to look at that thread there was no question of it being hidden or needing to go off to a sub-forum to find it.

OK Christmas is well and truly now over and out of the way, and I think we've tippy toed around enough now, so let's start the debate as it doesn't seem that anyone else is going to.

Could I please ask before we start that we all remain civil and polite, and have no name calling or nastiness. I will pm Glad and MSE Andrea and ask how they want this debate to be managed.

I'd like to thank jambodaveprince for stepping in at short notice and managing the mag dailies since my thread got closed down, but we need to get this sorted out one way or another as it's so much more work for him and others.

Originally mag dailies used to get posted on the main forum, then whoever posted them also put a link in Daily Sticky, and Daily Sticky then updated to their front page. As Daily Sticky was struggling at the time I suggested to Glad (who was running them at that time) about making a thread like Puzzler ones etc where there is one thread and the new links are just added to the end of that and updated to the front page of that thread (and not posted as separate comps on main board, and link not added to Daily Sticky). We did do a poll at one stage and it was voted that most people preferred it this way, and we eventually got it stickied too.

    1. My Old Thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/63694497#Comment_63694497
This used to be stickied on front page of main forum, new posts added to the end of the thread, updated to the first page

    2. Current Thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4827008
The posts on here are posted to main board first, link added to the end of this thread, and updated to front page.

When I was running the Daily sticky and CP suggested splitting the mag dailies off into their own thread I presumed it would be run exactly the same way as the Daily sticky was

the question of whether comps should be on the Main board individually has come up frequently and we even had a poll, 370 members voted with only 34 choosing not to have every comp on the main board
I don't think that would change if we polled again, so the only remaining issue is whether to have direct links to the mag sites in the mag sticky and really that's up to the person running it :)

I liked how the mag dailies were organised before Christmas - when they had their own thread and were not posted on the main board. I thought it ran smoothly, was only bumped if something important cropped up (like a change of answer) and the posters, including you Cornish pasty, did a fabulous job! My vote - bring back the mags daily thread !

    My thoughts exactly.
    Thank you all who post.

I don't know how old that poll is but I suspect it was before the flood of mag dailies and was a simple should all competitions be posted on the main board, not a question of should they all be posted on the main board in one thread or each one posted individually.
  • I liked it before when all the direct links were posted in one place. I did the mag dailies a lot more then. I suppose I am just a bit lazy and find it annoying to go into each thread and click.

The other option would be to have each prize in its own thread rather than about 6/7 of the same thing. If that makes sense?!

Thanks Glad, so do you think the poll question should be 'Should Mag Dailies go back to being stickied on one thread on main forum, and not be posted individually'? (with the exception of mag dailies specials?) or what question should it be?

If direct links on mag dailies go back to how they were, it would make even more work if the comps are still posted on main board, linked to mag dailies thread, and then changed to direct link.

I preferred the old way with a sticky at the top of the main board with direct links.

I do understand that there are many who like everything listed individually on the main board, so while I personally think that creates more clutter and more work for the posters, I don't object to it.
The main issue to me is having direct links, it saved so much time and surely cannot be any more work for the poster.

no it really was should all comps be posted individually :)

which is why I thought it was relevant to this :)

edited to add: plus there were weeks of discussions about comps being in plain view on the main board as well as linked in stickies to try and please all types of compers :)

  • I personally don't mind how the actually mag daily thread is - I found both the old and new style easy to use - but I'd rather that they weren't also all listed on the main board as I find the "clog it up" meaning it's more difficult to scan over the page and quickly identify the comps I want to enter.
