Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?

We are on a residential metered estate with 4 x 4200 litre tanks owned by Flogas. The residents received a letter dated 2nd December from Flogas advising that the LPG price would be increased by 5p per litre (taking our price up from 45.5p to 50.5p per litre) due to a 60% wholesale rise in LPG prices over the last 6 months. Using the excellent information provided by HateLPG (thanks HATELPG !) and various other sources, the residents association put together evidence to disprove this statement. We arranged a meeting with the local Flogas rep and asked that they bring along the Platts pricing index information to justify the increase - Flogas have to provide this as one of the Ts&Cs of the metered estates agreement !
At the meeting, the rep stated that a number of complaints had been received from metered estate customers about the increase and she was authorised to reduce the increase to 1.5p per litre to cover increased distribution costs, neatly trying to avoid the 60% wholesale price increase stated in the original letter. As the tanks had been filled in late October, we informed her that even the 1.5p per litre increase was totally unacceptable due to the fact that the gas was already in our tanks ! The rep went away promising to speak to her boss and Robert Flaxman (the author of the letter).
As a result of our strong objections and evidence that disputed the original statement regarding wholesale prices, Mr Flaxman agreed not to impose any increase until the end of our exclusivity period - result.
Would strongly recommend any other Flogas customers out there who received this Flogas letter dated 2nd December to challenge the increase. Contact me via PM if you need help !0 -

Many thanks! People find sites with Platts and/or ANSI..then they disappear behind paywalls/log-ins, etc. Frustrating!

Lpgnewbie also uses http://www.xe.com/ for US $ to £ exchange rates.

We run a country pub in cornwall and have a bulk tank, currentley through Flogas. They keep letting us down with deliveries,so much so that we again have no heating or means of cooking. Not what you want in business at all.
I know we can change supplier but who to? We asked calor a year ago and after much chasing a couple of chaps came to do a survey. Despite 3 phone calls and 6 months later nothing has happened,so clearly they are not interested.
Has anybody any idea of who else to turn to for supply? We can't find anyone in phone book or online but surely there must be more than just calor and flogas? We are in postcode area TR120 -

Welcome to the forum!
Sorry to hear about Flo's lack of service - but seems to back up comments on Trustpilot I posted a link to recently.
If you put TR12 into the trade body's member supplier finder at www.uklpg.org you get Calor, Avantigas, Flogas and Equal Response. The latter are quoting 42.5ppl for Cornwall (phone number is 0161 789000). I don't know how far west Lima Gas is supplying - they are based in Southampton - might be worth a quick email response on their website (especially if you get through a lot of LPG - as I imagine you do). If you get others in Cornwall signed up it might be worth their while!
Another route is to go through Mole Valley Farmers - you don't need to be a farmer! - as they do bulk deals with different suppliers. You still have a contract with a supplier but you pay MVF rates. Last time I looked it cost £10 to join Mole Valley Plus to get this deal.
I guess you are tied into Flogas for a 2yr contract? Or do you have a commercial contract with a different term?
Good luck - for a decent supply and a continuously warm pub! Please keep us posted.0 -
Happy New Year all!
Here's the graph for January and at last, there some good news: the price pressure seems to be easing.:j Long may it continue.
[I wonder how soon Flogas will send out the "In the light of easing prices, we are reducing the cost to you" letters?]0 -

Would anyone like to post a plot of the prices they have been charged, please? (Easiest would be to download HateLPG's chart, add your figures, scan and then upload as a jpg). I'm sure it would be interesting! Price guarantees? Indeed! 'Interesting' contracts - with lots of get-out clauses for the supplier - indeed! (see DAVID.T2's post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=63973658&postcount=2168).
The prices I've paid are on the chart (Extra Fuel), Mister G says he's paid 45ppl all the time to HBS (post #1902), drfrot is with Cardiff Gas ..so what he/she pays is on the chart too.
Best to show a plot when you're near the end of a 2 yr contract..so all the lovely introductory offer price has long gone! Good to see plots for the majors - whose 'introductory price' the independents usually can't match. And also for Countrywide - mixed reports on the forum for them.

Hi
I am at the end of my Avanti contract and looking to move to a smaller independent LPG Bulk Domestic supplier. Does anyone have any experience of Rose Gas and Lima Gas?
Thanks0 -
Hi , I have negotiated in the past 12 months for our estate of 37 houses , we are currently paying 41.5ppl and strike a deal ever 6 months based on platts etc . I negotiated a separate contract for whole estate the overrides individual contracts that means, we cannot be held to any individual's contract and can move suppliers every 2 years if we want . Keeps them on their toes . I would insert graph of my our last 2 years but not sure how too.0

Very interesting - where are you based ? Our exclusivity is due to finish in March and we will be negotiating new deal by approaching all who deliver to our part of DorsetHi , I have negotiated in the past 12 months for our estate of 37 houses , we are currently paying 41.5ppl and strike a deal ever 6 months based on platts etc .
