I'm NOT happy with Virgin Media at the moment. I've had Internet/Broadband with them since NTL practically started... but I recently got a call from them at the end of 2012 saying they had a great "Special Offer" for me... that I could get 30MB broadband with 80 Tivo Channels and Free for 6 month phone line for £34 for the first 6months and then £43 after that per month. They stated that it was only available to customers they called and if I rang back they would have to apply an installation fee.
I had a good discussion with the employee and made her aware that my house already had a BT line and we were not prepared to change that, so I would not need the phone... she agreed and said just don't hook a phone up to it and your fine. I also said we were currently waiting on sky to be turned on again but the Tivo sounded good (it's not)... I've barely used it.
Anyway, I told her the 30MB sounded great because we use LoveFilm and iPlayers but the 10MB buffers alot during films. So I agreed and got it installed/upgraded.
The internet still buffers after ringing their Technical Helpline, my speed test shows 29MB during the day but in the evening it drops to approx 5MB!! and to top it all off... I just found out they upgraded everyone to 30MB now anyway...
So I'm basically paying £40+ for a package I don't fully use and told the employee I would not fully use for the same broadband I would have been on if I had just stayed on my 10MB £22.50 broadband package as it was due to be upgraded to 30MB for free anyway... at no stage did the employee advise me this was going to happen and if I had have known that there's no way I would have taken out this package.
I contact Virgin today and the lady on Chat basically kept insisting I am now in contract and if I want to cancel I have to pay almost £70 cancellation fee.
WHY does Virgin do stuff like this to their customers! Why ring me and fool me into a package I said I don't need and not make me aware of the plans to upgrade everyone broadband!
I think I'll leave them... anyone have any good suggestions? We currently have BT so maybe they can offer us a better Broadband/Phone package?0 -
Hi all,
the Feb price rise is basically the straw to break the proverbial for me. I'm on 10mb, M tv and XL phone which was okay when I signed up at £20, now it's £39.72 and they want another price hike in Feb!! To me this is a very basic package to be paying £42 quid for.
So my dilemma is- what should I try to ask for and how do I go about it?
I have a recent leaflet which advertises an 'Essential Collection' at £26 +£14.99 a month (Tivo and better TV+ 30MB) which appears better than my deal but as the poster above says, they're bringing in 30MB for everyone anyway and to be honest I only watch the terrestrial channels.
So, what's the best deal I should ask for or should I ask to cancel and wait for retentions?, I'd actually like to bring my bill down,
Any replies are much appreciated, cheers, Jonf0 -
I'm afraid its a case of doing your homework and being up to date on what's going on. I've had a phone call from Virgin in the past for a better deal on a old package I was on (going back to 10mb here). Sounded good but I declined the offer there and then, once I was back home I had a good look to see what others were offering. Armed with ammo I got back onto the phone, spoke about the deal they had offered me during the day and managed to get a loyalty discount thrown in too!
Since then Virgin have never offered me any deals, I've had to do the haggling myself.0 -

Personally I'd get onto retentions and tell them your not happy paying what you pay now and ask if they can give you a better deal or lower your current package cost. Be polite and don't take their first offer. In previous phone calls to VM I've managed to get them to ask me what I want and they'll see what they can do for me. If on the first phone call you don't get anywhere then just decline any poor offers. Hopefully they might phone you back and try and get you to stay. Otherwise leave it a day or so and try retentions again. A different person may offer you a better deal.0 -

It was mentioned in a previous post a few weeks ago that one of the retention offers was £30 pm for a similar package to yours with Tivo M tv, 30 Mb BB and XL phone with an extra Multi Talk 150 minutes included. If you only want M tv then it's a competitive price but upgrading the tv results in a substantial increase.0 -

Check out your consumer rights to see if you are still within the cooling off period to cancel the contract.0 -

No unfortunately not, but GOOD NEWS!
I got their sales team to give me a call back and as soon as they came on I asked to make a complaint, they therefore transferred me to Consumer Services and I explained the whole thing. The guy on the other end was very helpful... spoke to his supervisor and agreed they should not have sold me a package in which I told them I wasn't going to use the phone line... they said they could clearly see the phone has never been used and therefore put me back on my old £22.50 per month Broadband Deal which is now 30MB anyway... so I'm now on 30MB for the price I used to pay for 10MB!

My uncle got all that you have, but 30meg bb instead of 10 and multi-talk added to his XL telephone.....a new super hub and a free TiVo box with install, for £30 a month all in with NO price rise....only adding multi-talk can avoid the price rise as they have a special fixed price deal. He then paid his line rental up front so his total bill will £16.10 a month.
Try and get this deal.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0 -
