Ive just cancelled my TV and phone due to the price increase and a 3.00 credit ending, kept the broadband though, am I likely to get a call back with an offer even though I havent completley cancelled.0

I'm on XL TV, M Phone and L Broadband (10 Meg, not due to go up to 20 until the very end of the list!), paying £45 pm, due to go up by £3.75. I phoned up retentions, and they won't budge on this package as apparently I already get an old loyalty discount. Dropping down to L TV would be the same price. Dropping to M+ would mean going into a new contract, and not hugely less in price. I sounded very disappointed, and the CS lady told me to wait until January and try again. She said that there are no deals at the moment, but they're going to ahve to introduce some as they're losing so many customers to competitors. So I'll try again next month before the price rises, armed with any New Year's deals from Sky, and see what happens,0

After the last price bump earlier this year, I agreed a 12 month contract in April 2012 for XL Phone (inc. calls and 0870/0845) and 10MB BB (now upgraded to 20MB) for £24.90/mth.
We've now received the letter saying an increase of £2.24/mth from Feb 2013 but on the back it says existing promo offers will be honoured so I'm assuming this won't kick in until April 2013 when the existing contract ends.
Is it better to wait until Mar/April 2013 to see what's on offer or call now about the proposed increase?
Just spoke to customer services and they weren't very flexible. The attitude seems to be "you're on a very "strong discount already which is competitive against the alternatives". He suggested paying the line rental in advance to bring the equivalent monthly cost down but I asked him to go ahead with the 30 day cancellation.
If they don't go come back with a better offer, I think this time I may look at the Plusnet Fibre or Sky Fibre packages. After factoring in the promo discounts and cashback sites, it's not too far away from the current monthly cost.0 -
Managed to get the following from retentions. Should I have haggled for more ? I would have like to keep my existing V+ HD Box in another room but forgot to ask.
1TB Tivo Box
M Phone
L BB
XL TV
Asian Package
All for £49.00 a month with no price increases. What do you think ?
Just got a call from VM outbound retentions and was offered the following:
1TB Tivo Box
M Phone
XL BB - 60MB
XL TV
Asian Package worth £12 a month ( can be taken off the package any time)
with some credit and upfront payment of the line rental for the whole year of £125 ish
average price per month = £49 with no price increases
I was offered a second box also within the same price but I did not want it I am not sure what box was that and how much is an extra box worth?
Does this sound a good deal or could I have pressed for more ?0 -
Got the call from retentions today and agreed to an upgrade to Broadband M (30GB) and keep Phone XL (rental+inclusive all day and 0845/0870) for £24/mth and a one-off credit to the account to offset the effective annual increase that comes in from Feb. So more or less where I started from, albeit with a better broadband deal.0

I use and have used Virgin branded good and services for many years on account of their clear no nonsense communication and (apparent) willingness to be open and honest as at all possible – the Richard Branson affect!
And I think that may be your biggest issue - "the Richard Branson effect". Virgin media are operating under that brand on a 30 year licence. Branson sold it for cash and stock. He has around a 10.7% sharehold! So your not really dealing with your " trusted" brand. Just my $0.020 -
What's the cheapest BB only 10 MB/30 MB price?0

Dont overlook the fact you can use 18185 via their 0808 freephone number to avoid VM high call charges if you dont have the appropriate inclusive minutes.

Just called virgin media trying to get some money off my £86ish monthly cost for package including sky sports and movies etc.
Had worked out with cashback site discount that I would be approx £200 a year better off with sky.
On the phone they wouldn't budge and offer any discount at all so I've gone ahead and given 30 days cancellation notice.
Can I expect a phone call from them with a retention offer?
Any tips as TBH I don't really want to go with sky but do want to save a few quid. What's the best I can expect?
Was told that with sky I would need to pay for installation of bt phone line etc. and broadband speed would be poor.
Many thanks.0 -
Usually they will phone you.
Sky offer free phone line installation. This month they have a promotion for new and existing customers of 6 months 'free' adsl unlimited broadband and then it's £7.50-£10 pm for the remaining 6 months.
Fibre Broadband is also available in some areas and for speed this would be comparable to VM's services.
VM often make much of their faster speeds but speed is not the only factor to consider with measurements such as ping, latency and jitter often showing up other shortcomings and network over-utilisation.0
