i've had an unschedueled fast day due to a sickness bug. i was due to start the week with a fast day on monday. Now I'm thinking it's maybe a good idea just to do one fast day say wednesday next week so my body has time to recover as I really have not eaten a thing for the last 24 hours!:question:HOW MUCH ?0

I won't go into the complicated biochemistry but basically as stored glycogen is used, water is also lost. People mistakenly assume it to be fat loss but this happens at a much slower and steadier rate, hence why you often hear that aiming for a 1-2lb a week loss is sensible and sustainable.
Yes this is exactly what I am aiming for 1-2lb per week - sensible and sustainable. I certainly don't believe in starvation type crash dieting:)
This diet is just brilliant though - easy to keep to and slow weight loss, probably even slower for me because of my underactive thyroid:(
As somebody said in an earlier post, it is a shame that people don't think a bit more about the damage they are causing their bodies by eating 5,000 calories per day - I am sure far more health issues than 500.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Hi!
I've been reading this thread with great interest, lots of good advice and tips. I've always stayed away from 'diets' like this as I believed that anything other than the standard three meals a day was faddy and not a sensible way to lose weight. But having struggled with Atkins, Dukan, WW and SW I now don't believe that obsessing over every morsel of food is sensible either - at least not for me anyway.
This 5:2 plan suits me as I don't have to plan too much and I don't have think about my meals too much. I have struggled a little with headaches but that could be due to contact lenses/glasses so not too much of an issue for me.
Ideally I would like to lose a stone by Crimble, following the 5:2 plus spinning/running/weights on 'eating days'. I'm not brave enough to try a spinning class after not eating, I find it hard enough as it is!
Im going to keep checking and seeing how everyone else is getting on!0 -
Whilst watching the Michael Mosley documentary, I saw links to another Horizon documentary: The truth about fat, so I watched that too. Very interesting
I've done a couple of weeks '5:2' (although my fast days are just 'liquid days') and am feeling better. I don't want to find out that I've put the whole stone I lost back on, (or worse!) so I'm not weighing, but trousers feel... less tight
Someone above linked to the 3 day diet, so I thought I'd give it a go. It was a new poster and the diet is a fad diet, but it looked 'do-able' to me, not unhealthy, and possibly the shock my system (and brain!) needed. I finished it last night, and this morning my OH called me the 'incredible shrinking woman', so I think it's had the desired effect :j
Oh, and the feeling of finally getting back into it inspired me to actually get back to doing some exercise: something which I've greatly neglected recentlyDid ~20 mins. skipping (HIIT), 10 mins. abs., and a few mins. stretching
Low carbing for today: just had a yummy low-carb pancake (mixture of stuff including flax and almond meal instead of flour) with raspberries, strawberries and a couple of dollops of Total yoghurt
Intend to do 1 'fast' (i.e. liquid) day this week, then 5:2 again next week.
Keep it up peeps. Our bodies - and brains - need keeping 'on their toes', as it were0 -
Well, I seem to be struggling with the alternate day fasting, so I have decided this week to do the 5:2 and see how it goes from there.
This is my second fast day this week, I'm finding that the fast days are easy, but that I have to tell myself not to pig out on the food days. I'm hoping this wears off and that eating normally will come more naturally on the food days.0 -

I got quite bad headaches too originally, especially the day after, I now try and drink a minimum of 2 cups of green tea and loads of water and don't get them at all now.2p off is still 2p off!0 -

Of course there are huge variations on a daily basis, but if the scale is small enough you can see the trend developing (each "trough and peak" is a little lower than the previous one) and I find it a very strong motivator. The same graph as my target weight loss and ideal finish on it.
I only did that because OH started it a few years ago when we both lost weight together (and sadly I put some of it back on...:o).
So far I'm loving the 5:2, and I am about 4 kg lighter than 4 weeks ago.:cool:I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Okay so I don't think I have lost any weight with the 8:16 daily fast, but I haven't been as consistent for various reasons as i'd have liked to be. And it is a fac pre-health problems I was able to shed weightmuch easier than now.
I am though certainly now down to the lowest end of "water weight" I have ever been so I think another kg or 2 off and it will be proper weight loss.
Will do for now, still will ask to see Dietician next Hospital appointment (Jan) if i've not managed to get much off.0 -
On week 14 ish now, (I'm not counting the 2 weeks we were away in Sep) and on day 2 for the week. Will make a GP appointment soon to see if my BP is better.
Will try and remember to weigh while at the gym next week too, although I don't expect much of a loss......CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -
