It's £60 back to (and inc) 08-09. But £45 prior to that.

No need to put that in the letter - it's just information for when you get a refund / code change.

  • After having followed the guidance on this site, I sent off a letter to HMRC a month ago. Today, I received a letter saying that I had to write again stating that I wanted overpayment relief under schedule 1AB TMA 1970, etc, blah blah blah ... Must also send copies of P60s. The last paragraph in the letter says "As you completed Self Assessment returns your claim to flat expenses for these years must be in overpayment relief format"

So, it looks like I have to write again, but I have a nagging feeling that the HMRC employee has just misunderstood the original letter and i'm now on a wild goose chase...

If you did complete SA Returns for previous years - then it clearly isn't straightforward. You really need to go back and amend the Returns ..... and you can't do that because time limits apply.

I think the HMRC person understood it perfectly :

Yes. But you need to clarify the years you're claiming for. You can only go back to 06-07 ....... and that year expires 31st March.

  • Hi, i wanted to ask a few questions about claiming for laundering my own work uniform.
Im a hairdresser, i wear uniform bearing the salon name and logo sewn on to the front, can i claim for this? If so how much would it be for 2 years?
Can i also claim for providing my own scissors?
  • I and my work mates are claiming for laundry allowance which I am led to believe is £60 per year. After trying to claim this I have been told by the tax office that I can only claim the tax relief on £60 which works out at £12.25 approximately for each year and not the £60. Martin says on the radio that we can claim £60 for each year. can anyone enlighten me whether we should get £60 for each year dated back to tax year 2005-2006 or is it just the tax relief
