blink_sumday - omg!!!! thats amazing - whats your secret??? I could do with a few weeks like that! Or maybe a few months of those weeks!! lol

As for the Everest challenge - I'd love to get on board with that, although I'm not sure I'd make even close to going up and down stairs 40 odd times a day!! At least its something to aim for :D

I've just looked it up and apparently its 8848m or 29029ft from top to bottom! Eeekk!

you alwasy loose a lot on the first few weeks, retained water from salt consumption, retained water from gylcogen reduction, loss of excess poop from over eating (morbidly obese people can have 40lbs of it!!) and fat loose

Thanks for replying. Maybe I should download em too :rotfl: ;) I need to lose a stone and also tone up my podgy belly :D I attend the gym 5 times a week but when I saw the advert for it this morning, I was like, "OMG!" :rotfl:

Haha, i was gonna buy them and the P90x ones so I could do them in the living room, but then dvd player broke, so i thought may aswell download them and do it in the kitchen. :p

Lol, you're saying 'OMG' now whilst watching the ad. Whilst doing the workouts, trust me the only thing you'll be saying all day long is 'OUCH'. ;) Nah, I love Insanity. It's seriously the best cardio workout I've ever done, the hardest and the most intense that will deffo give great results. (The warm up is no ordinary warm up :p) With Insanity, the great thing about it is that you're never going to have an easy workout. I remember when my brothers were doing P90x to bulk up and gain muscle, they followed the plan and were getting results within 5-10 days with their muscles being more defined. I can imagine if you followed the plan for Insanity for the 60 days (which is obviously purely cardio except for the sports training workout), you'd be lean in no time as it's literally a mega fat burning exercise workout.

I wish I could stick to the plan, but it's not practical for me, so I pick and choose.

I now want to get a cross trainer and throw my treadmill out and do cross trainer for 20 mins and a workout (P90x/Insanity/TurboFire) 5 times a week.

I would also like to try for the Everest challenge. I'm not sure how it'll go as I'll probably lose count very quickly so will have to try and think of a way to keep track. Your penny idea is great Puds, but I'm not sure it'll work for me as I have a very cheeky little boy that is trying to save some money so I think that the pennies will gradually disappear from the stairs and end up in his money box!

Could you leave a notebook somewhere up the top so you can mark each time you climb - you could use a gate system to count the times more easily?

Thanks Lolly and Dory :) Whenever I start things like this I seem to do very well first week then go on to 1lb a week weight loss but that suits me. That said, the last few weeks I have been eating so much crap that mainly I've just cut that out and snacked on salad/fruit rather than crisps but seems to have done the job! Hopefully I can get another loss next week and get out of the 30+ bmi group but as I'm restricted with exercise I know that makes it more difficult!

Are you guys both DIY plans or do you follow something strictly?

I've been all over the place with my diet! I started counting calories, which went well and gave a steady loss each week. I then started looking into low carb diets (it would make life easier as I have to count carbs anyway for my son) and decided to try Atkins. Again, it went well. I then fell off the wagon for a week and put on 3lbs . I'm now back on low carb, although not as restrictive as Atkins, I do think that this is something that I'll stick to though as it fits my lifestyle, I also feel a lot better when I'm on it.

Puddings was going to climb to base camp on Everest.

There are 2 routes (South East and North East) SE base camp at 5360m (17585ft) or a climb of 565ft or 175m per day during March. If your stairs are 8.5ft tall that is a climb of 67 times per day :j

NE base camp is at 5180m (16990ft) or a climb of 167m (548ft) per day during March. If you stairs are 8.5ft tall that is a climb of 65 times per day :j.

Sir Edmund Hillary climbed the SE route.

WOW! That's a lot more steps than I thought it would be! I may struggle with this one! Which route is everyone else doing? as it would make sense for us all to do the same thing.

I wish I had 40lbs of it! All it would take was a few laxatives and I'd have finished my diet! :rotfl:

That's a good idea about the notepad Fred, thanks. I think I'll try that.

I was going off this diagram that i found on a mountaineering site. i was planning to do my "virtual"climb from the base camp (17700') to the summit (29028') which makes a total of 11328'

Got to say that I didnt expect even one other person to join me in this madball idea, so now with a few other people all saying they're going to have a go,well I'm quite amazed and really pleased :-)
...but as March 1st creeps ever closer, I'm already beginning to have my doubts !!!!

so if anybody else wants to join in, well the more the merrier, all you need is a tape measure and something to climb - a flight of stairs, a step machine, a ladder, anything will do - just add up how many feet youve climbed and when you get to 11328, then bingo, you've done it , simple as that! Its completely your choice whether like me, you race to the top in the shortest time or whether you pace it out over the month... either way i bet you'll have thighs like tree trunks when you get there!
Meet you all up there at the summit :-)

    ----
lolly - if you cant use pennies to keep count then what about paperclips, or nuts and bolts, or pebbles... i do suggest that you find some way of keeping track though: during my first attempt at doing this in January, I just tried to keep track in my head but after a while you start to doubt where the count is up to and the numbers sort of start to play tricks with your mind, if you know what i mean :-)

I was wondering if getting to base camp via the SE route by Easter instead of the end of March would be more manageable for everyone as that would give us an extra 3 weeks.

That would be 320ft (97.5m) per day - if your stairs are 8.5ft in height that would be a climb of 38 times a day.

Ah right so we're climbing from base camp to the summit :j I misunderstood and though we were climbing to base camp :o

Ok 11328 ft makes 365ft per day, or 43 times up the stairs if they're 8.5 ft tall.

I'm doing a graph for this so if you want to join in let me know and I'll add you to it.

If you post your daily climb totals I'll add them in to the graph and will try to post it daily :)

Hmm, that looks like the perfect challenge for me. Count me in. Think im gonna do this alongside my workouts. Gonna give it a go tomorrow, and see how I feel, but deffo will be taking part in March, even if it seems impossible. Will measure my stairs later and post up the length.
