I was going to thank you for your reply. The thanks would have been to a post that was about 10000 back. So you can use the Find all thanks and find where and what I thanked you for, after a tedious half hour or so . Unfortunately my plan backfires as you only have a history that goes back to the start of the year so it would take you minutes to find your last thanked post from me.

With technology fast catching up, particularly with the introduction of smart\android phones. Many popular sites are constantly trying to keep up with demand. Google, Facebook, Ebay and Youtube have since upgraded to include android or smartphone versions, and this is fast spreading to include everything from Argos to Freecycle.

Will MSE consider including such a feature in the near future? I can imagine there are many of us MSEr's who would love to access MSE more easily, "on the go".

It is really not as expensive or complex as it sounds, and although it is possible to already access MSE via Google, it can be quite cumbersome to use on the phone.

I can pretty much guarantee were such an app available, it will increase both its popularity and availability threefold. As well as prove to be a good investment all round. Making everyone happy :D:D.

    Its just an idea ;)

    As posted in suggestion thread.

  • There is a simple little plugin you can add to show "Unanswered Threads" I like to help people in the Techie Section but find it pointless answering threads that have =>5 posts (roughly) so being able to view threads that no one has replied to would be good for me and for the people who need the help.

As I said this is a simple plugin that you just install via the Admin cPanel which I have done before.

If somebody thanks me how do I find what they thanked me for ? All I know is that the total goes up. I would like to know the post/thread that this relates to.

How does the subscribed list work ? I did not knowingly subscribe to any of the entries in my ever growing list.

I actually just came here to suggest similar. I would like to have notification of thanks, eg email notification of a thanks, with the option to no longer notify obviously. And/or perhaps a PM style popup notification when you enter the forum showing your thanked posts since last visit.

After all a bit pointless thanking someone if 9 out of 10 times they never actually know you thanked them.

"LIKE" algorithm - strange results for popular threads.

After a few weeks of the new algorithm that replaced the "Like" button, I think there is a problem with very popular threads that attract hundreds of subsequent (thanked) posts and thus thousands of views that swamp the number of thanks on the first post - I understand the algorithm uses views and first post thanks only.
A couple of examples from the competition board are:-
    1) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1733685
    2) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2666391

    1) has 576 first post thanks, 641 replies (many with 450 thanks) and 281,600 views.
    2) has 221 first post thanks, 321 replies (many with 450 thanks) and 96,000 views.

These two threads are probably THE most popular on the whole board, and when the "like" button existed they were permanently rated 5. The new algorithm gives them both a zero rating.

I suggest the algorithm is tweaked to take account of threads like these. eg. Divide views by replies, or add up thanks for all posts.

    30 second limit between posts.

Can I request that the 30 seconds you have to wait between posts is reduced to about 20 seconds.

This would still serve the purpose of preventing re-posts by accident, but experienced members hit this limit all too often when they have a series of offers/competitions they are posting. People who prepare posts offline and just need to copy and paste a title and a body before submitting can easily beat the current 30 second restriction.

We have the benefit of anonimity, but some use this to create multiple ID's - look at the "Utopia Warning" blog elsewhere on this forum.

In short the company is question has gone into liquidation after what looked very much like a ponzi scheme. There were too many newbies posting there in favour of the target - which many were suspicious of. If this was true then this allowed the the perpetrator to extend he scheme perhaps longer than he otherwise would; and those gullible punters were taken in.

It is possible to record the IP address of posters, so am wondering if some control could be introduced to limit this, nothing can be 100%, but some simple rules and procedures might highlight where this may be occuring. For example assuming that IP addresses are recorded, (i) highlight in someway which blogs may be subject to multiple IDs posts (without necessarily saying which are multiple IDs - hence other posters are warned) - (ii) if posters are concerned about attempts to mislead via multiple ID posters, then perhaps the abuse button should be permitted; but then maybe we need a facility to say why we are referring it?

    Hi

Don't know if I am being a bit stupid here but spent quite a long time looking, there doesn't seem to be a way to search for my threads/posts? When I put something on the only way I can find it is by going through and searching the latest posts, so if it's a few days old then I have to go through pages to find it which takes a while sometimes....
