Can we not go back to the way it was done until a few months ago, comps posted on the main board with a link if required in the regulars.
I use the dailies every morning and the monthlies and weeklies when I have time but would really miss them if they weren't there.0 -
Well i only got to about post 50 and then gave up reading in all honesty [as i would suspect and expect Andrea to have done to] as i thought i had been redirected to the 'comps discussion thread'
Please remember this is not a discussion area, it is for you to put forward your wishes in one simple post for Andrea to make sense of, in order to be able to construct some form of poll for which we can move forward
So please state your case in one post and then move on, stop the banter, quotes and requotes, or else this post may well be locked/removed/deleted altogether and only then if you are lucky a new one started without the right to [click] 'reply'MSE_Andrea wrote: »Righty ho all!
I'm still rather confused (I tried to read the discussion thread and it just made things worse for me!).
So here's what we want to do:
Run a poll - as Glad and others suggested.
Keep you guys happy!
But to do that I need to make head or tale of the different options you want polled.
So, can someone (or more) please post in as few words as possible the different alternatives you'd like taken so I can get them into my foggy head - I have a virus at the moment and struggling a bit!
Thanks and have a good evening!
Andrea

Apparently everything has a happy ending and if you havent arrived at the happiness, it hasnt ended yet :think:0 -
i used to work by end date but have caught up with all the comps so am working as added at the moment , i use the dailies weekliy and monthly threads but i put them on my own bookmarks and check them sometimes to make sure i havent missed any , i would like ALL COMPS to be posted on main board with a link to regular for daily and weekly , not really sure about monthly as TBH sometimes these get put on main board and overlooked for a few days till someone realises they are already in regs !
if a comp has a different question every week it should be a main board thread and left theremy name is Kit and im addicted to competitions , the what if is my driving force!!

the reason i was 'quoting' the suggestions that have all been posted was so it was easier to see who has actually 'posted' the suggestions for the poll questions/the different options you want polled, please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
Would prefer comps on main board with link to regulars (in essence, back to the way it was)
ps - thanks to all of you for even taking the time to try to sort this out - read through the first lot of pages of this thread and my head hurt2015 wins: Nokia Lumia 735 Smartphone0 -
a lot of people are still saying they'd like all comps on the main board with a link to the regs board, but there wouldn't be a regs board if that were the case, the stickies would have to be on the main board too and all comps (whatever the title format) would all be on one board
a few are saying they would like a regs board for some comps as comping by end date may mean missing regular entry into a comp
could this be a compromise (bear with me it's only an idea and could be tweaked to suit most people)
main board
all usual single entry comps
all monthly comps that can be posted with an end date, new thread to be posted each month
regulars board
all the ongoing monthlies (no end date), the type where you need to register or sign up for an email and get entered into a monthly draw
daily comps - reasons for suggesting this - as well as an answer being posted daily, some people like to chat on them which would be fine on the regs board, most of them aren't too long running and as the regs board will be a lot less busy most of these could then be found each day on the first page, searching wise, as long as people remember to put a link on the dailies thread for bhg new dailies can be found from there, and then people can use the same method they use now to get back to them each day (as I said most of them will be on the first page anyway) It would mean letting everyone know the new way (sticky on main board for a while, update to comp guide and leaving redirect for any moved from main to regs, which are searchable as BGH suggested earlier) but if it worked and peole know how to find them no one should miss out on any entries
that just leaves the weeklieseither they could be posted on the main board each week, even if a comp isn't posted asap it has a week to get posted, or they could go in regs on the same basis as the dailies, but as most people seem to favour the main board they could go there posted each week and see how it goes
if the weeklies were in the main board it would be a lot of work for the OP of the weeklies sticky to update the link each week but I don't think that sticky would be needed as people would be entering from the main by whatever search method they use (although it would be useful to have a list in case some of the more obscure comps got missed one week)
same for the montlies posted on the main board
the stickies could then stay as they are, on the regs board, but as monthlies and possibly weeklies would be posted as a seperate comp each month/week on the main board most people would catch them even if a link hasn't been put on the relevant sticky
so would only really need a dailies sticky and a sticky for the monthly draw type comps, meaning the current long monthly sticky would be much neater
Glad
PS
this has taken an hour or so to compose so sorry if I've missed anything posted in between
I know this won't suit everyone but whatever changes are made that will be the case, it's just that after reading all the comments this might suit most people most of the time

I use the regulars because I often miss (and honestly, don't look for) them as they come in on the board. I enter by end date, so if I didn't visit the reg board then the 1st I'd know about regs is too late
I like the reg board, even though I NEVER win anything off them
EDIT:purplebutterfly wrote: »It's okay to say "well just add a new daily into your own bookmarks when it's posted" but what happens if you go away for two weeks, come back, and four new dailies are now on page 212 of the main board? You will miss out on days and days of entries, if not completely.
I have a personal interest in this, admittedlyI'm not just being philanthropic! I often miss days/weeks at a time when I'm ill so having the regulars board is a lovely little safety net.
Just to add fuel to the fire - can I make a suggestion for an additon to the regular board if we do keep it?
Basically, I comp from the first page of new posts and then comp by end date to catch any I have missed. The one thing I HATE is finding a comp that ends in two days etc where it is something like "write a short story" or "play the game as many times as you wish - each play is an entry". By the time I reach it, I don't have long enough to write my story/play the game enough times etc.
Sooooooo, if there are competitions which require effort (creative, repetitive or otherwise) then maybe they could have a separate sticky/thread to allow people the time to enter them.
I won a fantastic prize with La Senza in their short story writing competition but only because I happened to catch the comp on the day it was posted. If I'd found it a day in advance of the end date, I might not have won.

i would prefer the comps on the main board i am not a fan of the dailys/weeklies/monthlies i have far too much to do at home and no where near enough time in the day for all the comps the dailys i entered once and once only (i know my chances of winning them are slim lol) it is taking me half a night now to get thru the comps which i do by end date as opposed to before where it took me a couple of hours everynight to do i think most ppl who enter the comps will feel the same not everyone has all day everyday to spend trawling thru different boards to find the comps i fear we may be missing outbest win in 2011:eek: 4 nights in Las Vegas

I personally don't think it's totally fair to get rid of the regs, even if 100 people use it, it's still being used. There's are literally 1000's of comps on there, how are they going to be incorporated into the main board? How can you make sure that people don't miss them, what if you work full time & when you get home you've missed loads posted?

ON TOPIC:-
Regarding the poll, as has already been said, firstly it needs defining what is classed as a "regular" competition? What are the 'rules'?
Then once the 'rules' have been decided we can then decide (poll) how best to 'post' threads within those rules.
OFF TOPIC:-
It's clear from the mixture of posts on here that there is not going to be one straight answer and we're not going to please everyone! I appreciate MSE Andrea wants a succinct set of questions for the poll, but it's not easy to define!
Fortunately there will be solutions open to accommodate everyone but it may just mean they have to adjust the way they comp i.e. people that comp solely by end date may have to also sort by thread start time to ensure they don't miss posts (or....just accept they will miss posts). People that don't like "bumping of threads' may be better sorting by thread start time. People that don't use the regular board currently may have to adjust to using it more frequently.
I'm quite flexible and comfortable with using the vBulletin forum software so will fit around whatever is decided is best for the majority:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0
