Just one thing to say over calor gas in Linconshire , it's the main LPG gas their because of all the caravan sites around their that use,. it so it's at a cheaper price due to the quantity use compared to Derbyshire with a lot less caravan sites , where Flo Gas is the cheaper option !

In that case here in Cornwall they should be giving the stuff away!! That certainly isn't the case.

    Nice theory though!

LOL Ted Hutchinsons post is from 2004 :rotfl:
At todays prices in Lincs you'll be lucky to get one 47kg for the price he's quoting for two.
  • Does bottled LPG prices fall in summer?
  • Hi I'm new to this forum:
Can anyone beat 34p per litre from Countrywide?
I've searched the net for an LPG price comparison site and there doesn't seem to be one available, so am in the process of building one.

I will update when it's up and running

I am paying £ 70.25 for a 47 kg bottle of Propane and am told that Flogas is cheaper

Any reason why we in Scotland have to pay more for the privelige of living here? it's not as if we have options to go on the mains.

  • I just got a letter from Calor today saying my price was going up 5.5p per litre.
I live on the Isle of Skye, and my nearest Calor comes from Inverness. The price was hiked to 44.7 p per litre in Dec 2009, and now another 5.5p to 50.2p - does anyone know a cheaper way of getting LPG to where I live.

This means a tank full would cost £864.78. That is a 2000 litre at 87% full which is the maximum. I simply can't afford that sort of price, as I already owe them £338 from the last fill.

I use it for hot water 2x each day for 1 hour and 2.5 hours per day for central heating (we need it even in summer up here) and a bit of cooking. It works out I use about 7% gas per month for most of the year.

Does anyone else out there feel held over a proverbial barrel ?

    annscullamus,

Are you *in contract* with Calor?

If so, they almost CERTAINLY CAN'T DO THAT!!!!!!!

Every Calor contract I have seen has a "cap" on the price rise - older contracts were capped at a maximum increase of 2.5 ppl in any six month period - newer ones are capped at 3.5 ppl in any six month period.

Read your contract carefully (IIRC, it was under clause 6, but see my other posts for full details).

Calor tried this trick on me a while back, and like you, I just accepted the price increases to start with. But then they got greedy and imposed a price rise too far, and that's when I decided to read the contract very carefully. The net result was that after a bit of a fight, and loads of B/S from Calor about the price going up for reasons beyond their control etc etc etc, they finally accepted that they couldn't put the price up that much and adjusted the price accordingly and retrospectively i.e., at my insistence, they went back to the contract start date and recalculated the current price based on having never increased the price by more than the contractually permitted amount at any time. The net result was I got a reduction of something like 10 ppl AND a nice hefty refund of nearly £1000 too. :)

They have tried this trick on me since, but after my initial battle with them, all it's taken was a quick letter, advising them that they may NOT increase their price beyond the amount as laid out in the contract (clause 6.1 in my case) and they back down straight away!

Hearing your story just re-inforces what I've always suspsected - that Calor are cynical with regards to their contracts and just assume (quite rightly) that most people don't read, understand or remember all the small print, and therefore they have a policy of squeezing people until the pips squeak.

I did threaten them at the time with reporting them to Trading Standards, the Competition Commission and the Regulator - don't know whether that had any impact or not - but it does strike me that if this is happening systematically, there really is a case to kick at the door of a consumer program such as Watchdog!

If you think about it, we were over-charged by nearly £1000 over an 18 month period. Multiply that by 1000 users who haven't read the small print (and I'm sure the number is FAR higher) and that's MILLIONS that they are illegally sticking on the bottom line!!!!
