Well, have now contacted Calor via the online account telling them that I consider the contract is binding both ways and have asked them to limit the increase to 3.5ppl.
Will let you know their response in due course.0 -
Have now had a reply from Calor. They have agreed to extend on the old price until September and then 2pence under retail price for the remainder of my contract, and will pay me £25 off my next gas order.
So, it is worth challenging this latest price hike. My deal may not be perfect but at least it's something. If anyone else challenges the hike it would probably be worth sticking out for an even better deal, I just agreed straight away without any further haggling.
Good luck and don't let the b****ds grind you down!!0 -
Can anybody out there tell me how much they are currently paying for 47kg propane cylinders with Flogas in Leicestershire area?
Thank you0 -
Hi
Am very new to all this!!!!!
I have just bought a new house and the heating is LPG it seems to be a minefield....does anyone have any tips or advice
Thanks
Rogue
When we moved into our new home, we also had an LPG tank, company tried to charge us well over the amount and try and get us to sign agreement, don't do it, ring round compare prices, then ring the company who suppliers the tank and give them the choice, we now pay as of 08/06/10, 35 pence per lit, we do not pay a rental fee for the tank, just refuse to or give them 7 days to remove it.
just the rental fee droped will save you around £48.00 per year.
good luck0 -

The only way you can go up against a company like Calor is to either get them such bad PR that they back down or to form a syndicate with other Calor users within your area and team up against them. My contract with Calor has just ended and in replying to their over exaggurated price increase of 5.5p PL (which would put me at 45.5.p PL)I tried to get the price dropped by threatening to move suppliers. They offered me a 1 pence drop. .....I am now moving to Countrywide with a price of 33p PL. I just don't get it, there are 4.2 million LPG users in this country and these suppliers are just taking us for a ride. It's time we got together and fought companies like Calor, BP, Shell and Flogas!

Hi RedPiano,
A decent price for 47kg cylinders at the moment is £40 - £46 plus VAT. Try these guys:

I too am forced to use Flogas--as is the entire village of 60+ houses here in North Yorks. British Gas sold their interest to Flogas several years ago and Flogas promptly increased their price by 20%. A few months later they did the same again--or attempted to. I negotiated on behalf of the village to halt any price increase. Since then the prices have increased and increased until in February 2010 they decided we would all pay 45p per litre. I negotiated with them again and we have a 'deal' in place of 33p per litre until September. Then it will be time for the next deal to be negotiated!
I have had quotes from BATA and Calor (who won't do a bulk delivery this far north) but the best price I can get is with Flogas. I trust (maybe stupidly) that we will again get a 'deal' in place later this year. I did manage to find someone who was willing to negotiate at least--so if anyone needs to know with whom--let me know0 -
I received the original letter from Calor telling me my LPG was increasing by 5.5 p per litre. Checked my contract and it states no more than 3.5p increase so wrote to them.
Have just had a letter this morning saying "oops, have reviewed your account and have only raised by 3.5p per litre", they also said that if I wanted gas I could order now at the pre-rise price of 38.9p per litre instead of 42.4 which it will be for future deliveries.
Have just rung and ordered a top up, will be checking that bill carefully to make sure it is the lower rate.
Result.... if you get a letter from Calor which says 5.5p then do write to them and complain.0 -
Do I spot a pattern here??
- Got letter from Calor - 5.5 ppl Price rise;
- NOT happy
- Wrote to Calor reminding them that under contract they couldn't put price up by 5.5ppl
- Got letter back from Calor saying "Oops, sorry. We can't can we - ok, we've adjusted your price accordingly"
- Still not happy, but less unhappy!
My gut feel is the latter, so I reckon *anyone* who has received the 5ppl should write to them and complain. From this forum and others, it appears that there is no consistent response (maybe it really *is* just incompetence), so definitely worth a complaint. On balance it seems they accept they error of their ways more often than digging their feet in!
Either way, at worst, what have you lost? A few minutes to write a letter, the cost of some paper, envelope and ink, a stamp and some shoe leather. A small price to pay!0 -

You don't even need to use a stamp with Calor, use their on-line accounting and then their contact us page to vent your wrath. You will then get a response either by phone or email.
BUT, absolutely complain about this price hike, there must be thousands of Calor consumers out there who, if they haven't challenged this hike, are contributing to Calor's coffers and are also encouraging Calor, and companies like them, to rely even more on customer complacency.
Lets build up some customer power and complain like crazy!!0
