To avoid burning cakes like those you can line your baking tin with greaseproof paper (even if it's non stick) so that the paper stands an inch or two higher than the tin. This shelters the cake top from the heat.

Afternoon all!
I got paid yesterday from the job that I quit the other week, and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount (well, it was a good paying job - but 65 hours a week is so not me - when would I ever bake???) - But anyway, its a good tidy little sum to go towards deposit for moving next month - taken the pressure off anyway!
Still got to find a job - you'd think it'd be easy, but things take so damn long in this day and age through red tape, so im feeling a little annoyed that I cant just go and WORK already!
On a positive, yesterday, I did laundry, cleaning, cooking. I also bought job paper, I have a few CV's to send out today, as well as a couple of other bits and bobs I never seem to get round to doing, and more cleaning. Ive also started packing all the paraphernalia that doesnt need to be around in advance of moving, so it really means all the random ornaments, and assorted books etc lying around. Everything else seems 'needed', so ill have a lot of packing come moving time.
As I got paid, I was thinking of treating myself, but there is a lot I want, and I simply cant blow all the money on them!! I want a haircut, a breadmaker, maybe something off ebay.... and the list goes on. I suppose the only necessary thing is ahaircut, as I am getting a little straggly, and it wont look good in an interview, so I might do some research as to good cheap local place. Or I might just walk into tony and guy......
Anyhoo - plenty to do, im off to do whatever needs doing...

we've been biscuit making this morning(raining so no gardening),DD made chocolate chip and I made digestives. Then we did a sandwich filling for the lunch sandwiches with boiled eggs, marg, cheese and spring onion tops blended. This afternoon I have been trying to put a new (charity shop) zip in my shorts...All my needles have mysteriously vanished and the one rusty needle my DD found in her room is no fun at all
I'll just have to buy another packet tomorrow when we do our last minute before the hols shop.

Rebob wrote:Queenie - Is the recipe for the microwave slice things on here anywhere?.
 I thought I'd posted it a while back, or maybe I just *mentioned* them a while back LOL
Crumble Slices
6oz butter/marg
6oz dark soft brown sugar
60z porridge oats
7oz plain flour
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
4oz jam
Lightly grease an 8" square baking dish (I use my ceramic "Lasagne" dish as it's microwave safe)
Cream the fat and sugar together.
Stir in the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
Press half of the mixture into the baking dish.
Melt the jam in the microwave for 30 secs and then spread the jam over the base.
Crumble on the remaining oat mixture, pressing it down lightly.
Bake in the microwave for 7 minutes (full power).
Cut into squares and cool in the baking dish.
Enjoy~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

that sounds rather yummy Queenie
No O/S bar a packed lunch and brekkie round here today (and no baking last night either, too sleepy.. I did however find the air bed) as today's the day we find out about the redundancies here.
I've made myself very unpopular by bringing up the fact that we do a lot of overtime here (or rather my team does. I don't...the time's far more important than the money) and they should be looking into that first. I know the rest of the team need the money to make the job really viable for them but no matter how much my job isn't very good, it's still my job and I need the money to pay the mortgage! So I've been a bit of a pariah today.
Looking forward to some theraputic pastry making later on (provided I get out of our meeting sometime before midnight...!)Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0 -
The crumble slices sound lovely Queenie. Mmmmmmm.
Well, I've been into college today for the penultimate day of my course. This involved having copious amounts of coffee from the canteen and chatting (oh yes, having tutorials and lectures too!).
Took me ages to get home due to all the standing water on the dual carriageway, so all traffic was travelling at 30mph. And then the showers that ensued.
Went straight to the library to pick up some books to read whilst I'm house sitting at my parents' next week. My mum has a large chest freezer and has told me to eat what I like (lots of frozen home made stuff), just so long as I DON'T TOUCH THE CAKES as just after they get back from holiday it's the church garden fete. Hmmm, I'm sure she wouldn't miss just one ickle cake? I'm also there to babysit Grandma, who lives 200yards away and at 81 is going slowly potty, quite sad really. Grandpa lives 1 mile away and at 89 (90 this year and still driving) won't be in for me to worry about as he has a more active social life than anyone! Oh, and then there's the dog and four cats.
We're having spag bol tonight as we didn't have it last night as OH decided to treat us to a chinese takeaway (v naughty) to celebrate me finishing my course. Will probably take a par-baked bread stick out of the freezer to have with it and some dipping oil. Mmmmmmmm. Where you off to? When are you going? (Got room for me?)
Thanks Queenie! We're off to Menorca in a couple of weeks - getting quite excited now :j and have already packedwell my stuff anyway and now I am having probs shutting case. Well maybe I could sneak a few bits into oh's case. Yes I know I've packed early but that's because I have to do all the other things like euros, tickets, passports etc so like to get one thing out of the way! Now getting the rest of the family to pack is another matter  I expect this will be the last year the kids will want to come with us as they are 21 & 27 now! Kinda nice that they still want to come along.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
