Write back (or fax if a PO Box) thanking them for their letter and informing them that you accept the £250 as part payment without prejudice but that you will continue to pursue the rest of the money that you consider Abbey owes you.

    Good luck!!
  • Hi everyone. I need to write to Abbey to inform them that I'm claiming £2357 (inc. interest). Sounds like a stupid question but where exactly do I write to them? I live in Milton Keynes. Do I write to the manager at my local branch? Or is there a head office address I'm supposed to write to?

hi, this whole thing started in february 2007, i sent all the relevant letters to abbey. they refused to give me a refund so i decided to go with the FO. after about 6 weeks i got a letter stating that abbey have made an offer of £3220. the letter contained an acknowledgement stating that i would accept this offer as final, which i signed as i accepted this offer. i then recieved another letter from the FO stating the bank would contact me to finalise this matter, and that my case was closed, due to the offer. this letter was sent to me on 20th june. i am still waiting for a reply from the bank and for my money. does anyone know how long it takes for them to give me my money. i dont see what the problem is all they have to do is but the money straight back in my account. getting really fed up of waiting for my money. is there someone at abbey i can speak to, to speed up the process.

Just noticed we had a few new members in the forum looking for help, so I'll do this as a general message to all :)

First read and watch Martin's article
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/bank-charges
Further Help - a selection of messages in order and all in 1 place to help you do it
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=400981

Personally I don't think anyone should settle for less than 80% of the original charges. Charge them interest too as they have been doing it to you since you had an account. Even if you have never been charged interest, the fact that you don't receive interest on your current account is a charge! While the bank has your money it earns between 6% and 18% lending it out to others! And don't forget to tell the bank how much they will save by paying you 80% because once you've taken it to court the bank has to pay your costs including recompense for your time and effort to get it there and defend it!

Example based on one of my claims.
I asked for £562.78 based on 85% of the fees and interest at 4½% (far less than they charge). They failed to see that this was potentially a saving of £473+ and offered me about £250. I refused, registered it at court and then sent the following statement, I'll let you know what they say once they reply :)

I requested list of charges and received them.

I requested money back at end of May, beginning June and received a letter stating they were investigating.

I still never heard anything so i contacted Abbey yeaterday and was told i would hear something soon but they couldn't give me an exact timescale.

Surprisingly this morning i received a letter stating that they are still investigating and they will be back in touch in another 4 weeks.

I feel like they are making a fool out of me but i don't know if this is normal procedure.

The letter doesn't guarantee this will be solved in 4 weeks it just states that if the investigation is not complete in 4 weeks they will write back to me.

I need advice do i start proceedings or not????
