Got my statements back yesterday with no fuss and worked out charges to be £364 with interest.
Letter asking for my money back already in the post.

    Fingers crossed.

Hi all, another newbie to this site, just want to thank everyone for their help first off. This site is amazing and i am now well into the process of reclaiming my bank charges(and sorting out my debt!). My wife and i have sent the lba's and the bank(at the last moment) has made an offer. It's about 200 pounds less (each) than the total charges and 300 or so less than the total with interest. I am now wondering whether i should go ahead with court while accepting it as part payment or just negotiating with them to settle for the total charges minus interest. So far Barclays have been quite easy to deal with and i don't want them getting nasty during the court process.
Any input? I value the opinions on this site and would like some advice. Also, does anyone know how many times Barclays have actually gone to court yet?
Thanks again to everyone for the invaluable advice so far

give a man a fish and he eats for a day
teach him how to fish and eats forever

Its worth negotiating with them to settle for the full amount less interest. I personally dont know of any case where they have gone to court and actually turned up although they may push the process the whole way before settling. This post below shows what may happen if it actually gets to court with them. Top thanks to OP showmethemoney! for her post.

For your first letter you dont ask for interest. You ask for this in the LBA (letter before action) as you would be awarded this at court. Good luck with your claim :)

Hi why do i not ask for intrest ive seen other sites which have templates and they say to show intrest on them.

You can ask for it. Just as they can say no. You simply have more chance of getting it where court is mentioned as the bank knows the court will award interest. It is the association with court that makes the difference in the letter.

I need some advice really. I recently was successful claiming my charges back from the halifax. I wanted to do the same with a closed account i had with Natwest. I got the statements today and i owe them £1200 as they have been adding interest etc on the account as it had an overdraft. Can i claim the interest back plus charges or do i quit now?

Did you actually request that the account be closed?

Sent off a letter on the 26th of March as per templete on this site (Letter3 - asking for interest too) with a copy of my statements that had O/D charges on going back about 5 years, and a printout of the interest calculator from this site.
    Got this reply today:

    Surely they aren't right.
On my statements it says exactly this:

[DATE] CHG O/DRAFT EXCESS FEE 60.00

[DATE] CHG O/DRAFT EXCESS FEE 20.00

    etc etc..

Are they just stalling, or trying to put me off claiming? What's happening here?

Hmm, sorry maybe I should've posted this in the Lloyds TSB thread??
