This is the pattern I am using which is an adaptation of one I found on the other thread. It can be done on 4, 5 or 6 hook so that should give you a bit of choice. I found 150 was long enough for what I wanted. If you find the YouTube tutorials too annoying, try some of the other sites which give instructions just in words and pictures (I printed the page off on how to do doubles and trebles). One other VERY important thing to remember, which can be confusing - US and UK pattern terms for DC and Treble differ. I changed these below from the US to UK. You will need a biggish ball of wool to do this all in one colour, 100gms will give you some to spare. It's easy and rewarding, so give it a go. Good luck, K

Row 3: Turn. Ch 2. *Work 2 treb in next treb. Work 1 treb in next treb.*
    Repeat bet *’s across.
Row 4: Turn. Ch 2. *Work 2 treb in each of next two treb’s. Work 1 treb in
next treb.* Repeat bet *’s across.

I tried to learn to crochet last year and ended up throwing it all across the room! QUOTE]

    Snap! :rotfl:
Have been trying for years to crochet, my mum got taught by my grandad who had one arm, so she couldn't teach me as it was very cackhanded......
    .......Then...last Christmas, like magic...it all clicked.
I've now crochetted a huge kingsize pewter grey throw, scallop-edged with silver lame thread and also done some hot pink cushions ready for summer when I change the colourscheme in the living room. I have to confess - I have a crochet hook with a tiny light in, so when dear OH is snoring his head off, I can crochet in the dark without waking him.
(never mind that I'm awake though, oh no!)
It's also handy for reading in the dark with as well....

  • Yay, crocheters! I can only crochet, never got the hang of knitting, and most of this years christmas presents / baby presents are crochet.

When I went home a few weeks ago I found a huge stash of yarn in the attic - some my mum had had from her ex husbands mother! And her ex husband was from before my dad, so well on 25 years! No guilt on raiding that, with permission of course....

This is the book that I used to learn to crochet - but mine was a much earlier edition. It's really good IF you can get hold of a copy.

Have to admit though, that even after 40+yrs of crochet I STILL can't hold my hook/yarn in the 'official' way. I hold my work in my left hand, my hook in my right hand, loose yarn wrapped around middle finger of right hand and manipulate the yarn around the hook using my right index finger - the same as in knitting!

People who see me crocheting don't believe that it works, till they come to stand behind me and can watch that it DOES work out exactly the same.

For anybody who is struggling to hold their work 'correctly' - give it a go :)!

I know! It will save me a fortune.

I only just got back, so I haven't done anything yet, but I recon there may be a proper afghan on the cards for my mum's 60th or my mates wedding... Plus some quick winter hats for last minute Christmas presents!

I made a great hat / scarf set for my mum's birthday this year, I'll get some pics up soonish...
