Hello
I've been mooching around the MSE site since I joined a few days ago (or is it weeks? I've lost track!:D), and thought I'd stick my head round the corner of this thread to say hi.
I'm new to money saving but, having saved £150 on my car insurance by following the tips from this website, I think I'm getting the bug! I love cooking and growing things so, hopefully, I'll start falling into OS ways...
I live in Portsmouth with my pet cat, whose favourite game is walking across the keyboard while I'm trying to type. It's rather annoying, but it does mean I can blame any incoherent posts on the cat!
I look forward to chatting with everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hello everyone!
I've been lurking around the MSE site and forums for quite some time, finally starting to become a bit more 'active'.
I live with my partner. I've just become a qualified secondary school teacher and have found myself jobless for the next school year because of the lack of jobs due to the economy. Meanwhile, trying to find any temp/supply work to make ends meet. Currently staying at home and stretching every last penny and taking care of the house.
I've really loved the recipe threads so far in OS because they've helped me get creative with food so everything gets eaten and nothing goes to wasteMarch win: Fair Squared organic spa skincare set

Hi! Another newbie here trying to absorb all this information without going crazy!:p
I work self-employed and my wife looks after our one son and works a few hours each week. We already live quite frugally but are getting to grips with every area of our finances and really going back to basics to coin a phrase. We are already pretty minimalist in our lifestyle and home, but are taking this further. I cannot believe how much cr*p one can accumulate in one's home without even trying! Anyway, thanks to all those who have advised so far and hope we can help in our own way too.0 -
Hi - I am not a 'Newbie' anymore but haven't posted on this thread before so thought I should. I am a 26 year old full time office worker and live with my 29 year old b/f and two gorgeous dogs.0

Hi,
I've been lurking and reading the boards for a few weeks now and feel it's time I plucked up the courage to introduce myself and set out my aim so I can make it a reality.
I'm 51, married have 4 grown up children and 3 cats. I used to be an OS stay at home mum but returned to the rat race while hubby went back to uni and changed his career, that was 12 years ago now - it was supposed to be for just three!
I need to change the bad habits picked up over the last decade - ready meals, takeaways, highly processed junk etc. I also need to wean the family off my income and learn to live without a CC (currently £3,000):o.
So far I've cut my hours - and wage - now to changing those bad  habits.
I look forward to getting to know you all better.

Hello
Mother of 3, 17 - 22 years old - only 1 lives at home and she is full-time college student and her boyfriend is here a lot. Just had first row with hubby over money. We both work fulltime -both earning fairly good money but we still have problems making ends meet nowadays. Row was because he thought I was not paying my fair share of the bills. The weekly expenses food, rent come out of his money and I basically pay all the rest, water, electric, council tax etc, it turns out that he only on average spends £75 month more than me. we each have our wages paid into our own accounts as we thought there would be less rows that way. So I have come back on here after a very long, to see what i can do to save on the food shopping to make up his £75.

hi everyone.
i've been lurking, mainly on OS sites for well over a year now and finally this week worked out how to do a post. I'm a bit slow with modern technology!
I live near Selby in North Yorkshire. I live on my own with my dog. My four sons have all left though they do visit regularly. DS3 stayed last night. I think he wanted to sample some of the home made wine I've been producing. He said the rosehip wine tasted like a whisky liqueur with melon undertones - not sure if it's a complement but he drank it.
I moved into this house two years ago and since then I have been developing my 'Half Rule' i.e. I have to halve the cost of everything. I have been mostly successful though not yet with the mortgage and the rates. Vets bills too are pretty inflexible but doing well with most everything else. I have also developed other 'Rules' along the way such as the 'Giving Up Completely Rule', the 'Use Your Imagination Rule' and the 'Recycle Rule'. I wanted to contribute to my sons' weddings in the future so needed savings. Unfortunately my savings been mainly used in legal bills aganist my ex (that another story) but it's a good job I had cut down on my spending or I would be even worse off now than I am.
I love MSE - it has saved me a fortune and I'm still learning money saving tricks every day.0 -
