youve done well then,
maybe thats where ive gone wrong, using my bum too much by sitting on it!! ;D
any way iam a bit older than you (iam 21) and probably loads less active, dont think body building would make me look very good as a female ( sorry to any1 whos a female bodybuilder) but thats just my view id like to be slender than muscley
I agree lazylins ... don't like too much muscle on anyone, but that's my personal opinion of course. ::)
Anyway, I think our 17 year old muscle-man has worked wonders ... many congrats. on shaping up so well and losing all that flab!
I'm older than both of you put together by the way and find it much harder to control my weight as I get older and my metabolism's slowing down. Frighteningly, I was 4 stone lighter at the age of 20ish than I am now ... it just sort of creeps up on you. ::)Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Well if this doesnt work nothing will. My boss bought some scales this week and everyone in the office wasa weighed. I weighed 10.7 :-[ I really want to be a stone lighter than that. I'm nearly 30 and 5ft5.
Everyone's weight has been put on a massive board at the end of the office and we are having weekly weigh ins now that will be recorded on the wall for everyone to see. I am horrified that i might put on a pound so am following weightwatchers strictly. I did this before but when i got to about 9.11 i stopped losing the weight even though i wasnt cheating.
Has anyone got any ideas what to do when this happens? I do struggle a bit with losing weight as I have an underactive thyroid. Apparently this shouldnt affect me as i take medication but I am convinced that it does.
Tips anyone??Life is not about how many breaths you take.... Its about how many moments take your breath away

Fish and oranges! I've basically lived on these over the past few weeks, not because of a strange diet, just love the damn things soooo much!Nice to save.0

Thanks but i cant stand either of them
Going to bed now before i start cheating and raiding the cupboards. I hear you burn more calories sleeping that just sitting around anyway ;DLife is not about how many breaths you take.... Its about how many moments take your breath away

Plus I think the whole thing about weight becomes an obsession. It's natural to be 'around' a weight rather than A Particular Weight. Being paranoid about putting a pound on wouldn't help my performance at work, either. And a pound - what's a pound? You're wearing your Bridget Jones undies today, aren't you? That's where that's come from!
AND I've just put your weight and height in the BMI calculator on the BBC's Fat Nation site, and guess what? You're in the 'healthy' range. You won't be underweight if you lose that stone, but you're not overweight now. A better indication might be your waist measurement. See Are you an Apple or a Pear to see what I'm talking about.I did this before but when i got to about 9.11 i stopped losing the weight even though i wasnt cheating.

Tips anyone??
When you first start to eat less, unless you are doing more, your body goes "Nooo! I'm being starved!! There is a shortage of food!!! I must lay down FAT!!!!"
If you use your body more as well as eating less, your body doesn't think it's being starved, it works harder and lays down muscle. Now, muscle weighs more than fat, but in the beginning that's no problem at all, because you are losing the fat as you increase the muscle.
However, you reach a point of balance again. Your body is quite happy with its stores of fat, you're quite happy with what you're eating - you're not 'cheating', as you see it. The only way down is to burn more calories - you may be able to reduce what you're eating but if you're already being very strict that may not be an option.
Plus you may be continuing to lose fat, but the increased muscle cancels that out. I'm not talking bodybuilder muscle here, btw!
So, unless the boss is letting you all out for a brisk walk at lunchtime, I'd break those scales when (s)he's not looking!
I don't know what effect your thyroid and medication would have on this, but I can't see it would make a huge difference to the 'less in and more out = weight loss' equation. It may make life more difficult for you, and it may be that a slightly increased dose of your medication would help, but you've got to weigh that against side-effects and you'd obviously need to talk it through with your GP. If in all other respects you find the dose you are on is adequate and trouble free, I'd want to stick with that and try the increased activity route.

Morning all!
Well I have some great news to report, I got weighed as usual Saturday morning and lost 7lbs. Now this is a bit of a fake indicator as I put back quite a bit through December of what I had lost (I'll yell out when I am back to where I was as at December 1st ;D ) Also, I knew I would have a massive fall in week 1 as the body is saying oooh, no crap this week! wow fruit, wow salads ohhhh!
The weight loss this week for me isn't what I call 'packed on' so perhaps a couple of weeks will look high to other folk but the real test for me is what will I be losing throughout February. As I will be further into the diet, hopefully by then I will be back to around where I was December 1st and also I'll (hopefully) have been regularly attending the gym for a few weeks!Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Linda12 - WOW! You go girl! I am so in awe of people that can even stay the same over the Christmas period but you lost a pound! Well done.
Mimi1 - thanks for the supportYeah Slimming World is easy to fit in around any lifestyle, its really flexible so doesn't leave much in the way of excuses ;D
Savvy_Sue - I think someone pretty much told you about the classes but last time I went (early '90s) you arrived and all queued up to pay then one a a time you went over to the Group Leader who weighs you in has a little chat about the week while she is writing down the weight and says what you have achieved this week. You take a seat around the room and catch up with friends (usually the people who joined the same week you did as you all have that in common) and once everyone has been weighed in Group Leader would start a topical chat. Not a brainwashing session, quite relaxed and very informative and supportive. At one point during the meeting, she calls out name and what you lost so you can get a clap from the rest of the group (our leader did call out gains but not in a degrading way, just a 'any ideas what happened' kind of way. If you have no clue then say that and people will try to help and offer suggestions. If it was a special occasion or just had a pig out then it is left at that but in a nice way). After this we used to have a kind of question time with everyone not just the group leader, chipping in helpful answers. Then the meeting breaks up, you can hang back to ask questions that you may have that you didn't want to yell out in group setting and then Group Leader would go and talk to any new people who had joined that night. Oh almost forgot if anyone had achieved a key weight loss like 1 stone 2 stone etc then she would hand out their certificate and everyone would clap like crazyAlso there was a prize for the slimmer of the week (person who had lost the most but week 1 people excluded [see my weight loss above for reason why *grin*]) Very supportive, friendly and enough to help the majority of people stay on track without being obtrusive and making people feel ashamed and degraded. Can't give any idea of current costs though I'm afraid but I do know that members get the weekly password to the website (something I miss about not going to a class
) and are able to purchase the monthly magazine cheaper than shelf prices and also the Hi-Fi bars - snack bars with sins counted for you but really tasty (the other thing I miss about not going to a class!) Hope that has helped.
Technov2 - Amazing! The photos are a very graphic way to show your achievement. I bet you feel like a million dollars - and so you should!
loopyloo - I would have died before letting them weigh me in the office and then to put my weight up on the wall! *flushing at just the thought of it!* I would have died of shameI hope you didn't feel peer pressured into it, if the office diet is done in the right way it can be really helpful but like the a couple of the others here, I would have resigned first... Good luck with it though, if you get to a plateau then you could try varying the food you are eating within your points allocation, so your body goes ooh! different food, not the same old stuff I have been used to! I have heard it helps, but with quite a bit of weight to shift I haven't needed yet to try it out.
We're all here to lose weight and give each other support along the way so lets go for itSad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
I am quite ashamed of my weight up onthe wall but i do think it will work. I would definitely die of embarrassment if my weight went UP! I will be holding my breath when i step on the scales on Wednesday
Not been v well today so have hardly eaten. Means I have an extra 8 points for tomorrow. McChicken nuggets and small fries come to just under that so i can have a treat tomorrow for lunch ;D
Just tried on my swimming cossie ready for aqua-aerobics tomorrow night and all i can say is that its a good job it has lycra in :-[
Good luck for tomorrow everyone. ;DLife is not about how many breaths you take.... Its about how many moments take your breath away
