Okay so I've just signed up and everything was going as expected until we get to the #calls per month/quarter bit.
The call centre chap (Craig) was going throught the usual scrpit of requirements and informed me that I would be required to make 10 chargeable calls per month or 30 per 3 months. So I quoted the info from the web page:

"Customers must remain on their chosen Calling Plan for 18 months from the date of purchase, and must make at least 30 chargeable or inclusive calls during every three month period, or 10 chargeable calls or inclusive calls per month if you are billed monthly."

He said he could only go on the information he had. So I put it to him that the info came from their web page. I gave him the URL and he took a look but said he could only go on the info in front of him...

As only one set of requirements can be correct I pushed him a bit further on this until he went and spoke to his supervisor, came back and said if that's what's on the web page then that was what would be applied, however, on closing the agreement he suggested checking the terms and conditions when they come through.

So i'm still non the wiser as to whether the 10 (I went with monthly) calls should be chargeable or inclusive. Anyone got a copy of the Terms and Conditions at hand to clear this up?

The same criteria apply as they do with free Caller Display and/or basic 1571.

I have just found this thread and hope it's OK to ask the following?

My son has just moved into a brand new flat. He needs to connect to BT as he wants to connect his laptop to the internet. I see that if he signs up to BT for 18 months, BT will not charge him for connection. (Correct?) But as he is an Orange mobile customer (monthly contract) he could get free BB with Orange.
So my question is this, should he sign up to BT and get the free BB from Orange or is there a better way to do this?

I hope the above makes sense and any advice will be most welcomed.

ps, he is having real problems with coverage on his mobile in the new flat.

    Thanks for reading.

Orange broadband requires a BT line:
BT line required, line rental payable. Subject to availability. Minimum term 18 month contract. 10GB monthly usage allowance. Fastest download speed up to 8Meg. Speeds vary dependent on line quality and distance from exchange. Inclusive evening and weekend calls to UK landlines starting with 01, 02 and 03. Calls subject to fair use policy. Call for up to two hours, redial as often as you like. Wireless requires an enabled computer or adapter. Price assumes payment by direct debit. Other terms apply.
The upside is Orange cellular coverage (or lack thereof) in his flat is irrelevant with regard to Orange landline voice telephony (which is a CPS service) and broadband.

However, there is only a 65% chance of him being in an "Orange broadband network area":
Prices quoted are available to customers who live in an Orange broadband network area, which is 65% of all UK homes. Don't live in an Orange network area? You can still get Orange Broadband but you'll be charged an extra £7.83 a month.

Heinz, thanks for your reply. Should he try going with BT for line rental and perhaps Plusnet for BB?

Or what about Mobile BB? Will he need a telephone line for Mobile BB? (Sorry if that is a 'daft' question but I have no idea how Mobile BB works!)

I have just been on the Orange site and read that Mobile BB does not require landline.

I thought he had an Orange mobile contract? That'd mean, if he's in an "Orange Broadband Network area", he can get Orange (ADSL) broadband for nothing - why would he consider Plusnet if that's the case?

No, mobile broadband does not require a landline, it's 'delivered' over the cellular network.

Heinz, I was thinking that he might be one of the 35% unable to get coverage with Orange. Hence the reference to Plusnet.

    Thanks again.

    Hi eviltoad

Sorry about the confusion, the calls can be chargeable or inclusive - both count.

    Cheers,
