  • I arranged my free line rental on Monday morning, but although they knew about the deal, I was told I would have to make 10 additional calls a month, and they couldnt be part of the "inclusive calls".

I managed to get the free line installation with no problems, my letter from BT says 10 call per month but these can be either inclusive or chargeable....

It's been established that inclusive calls DO count.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I have just successfully bagged my Free BT line, I rang the number that Martin Lewis quoted on his site, I opted for new sales on the press this for this phone system got through quoted the magic words "NEW LINE FREE CONNECTION OFFER" and that was that. I can honestly say I had no problem whatsoever. An engineer is coming next friday to put in my new BT line. Good Luck and Thank you Martin.:T

Does anyone know what happens if you don't make the 10 calls in a month? Do they charge you extra?

Just wondering if it's an empty threat to make you use their service more? Anyone have any inside knowledge of BT if they actually count the amount of calls you make?

As the calls can be free (i.e. the inclusive calls you get at the weekend or whenever), that's unlikely.

That's true, but maybe there's an incentive for them to have more ppl using there lines for phone calls......by having large customer usage it gives them more power as a business, maybe they want to evidence that for the sake of other businesses whether they in cooperation or competition. Just a thought.

Anyways, if anyone knows what happens if you don't make the 10 calls per month that would be greatly appreciated.

I think the T&Cs will indicate that you will be charged the full price of the installation retrospectively (similar to Sky's T&Cs about recovering the cost of the equipment/installation they supply f.o.c. under their 'interactive discount' if you don't leave the STB connected to a telephone line for 12 months).
