They can, and have in the past, charge the full connection price as people broke the terms. Though that was a different offer (the £29.99 one) with the same terms really. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

Thankfully I am eligible for the BT Basic tariff and I will not be penalised by BT when I switch to it.0

I rang BT yesterday after getting charged £122 connection charge put on my account. I quoted the offer posted above and they removed the charge from my account. Result!0

Thanks to those that spotted this. I asked to be put through to the Customer Options Team and the deal was done within 15 minutes.0

As (the ever knowledgeble) Heinz has said, you can sign up to the free connection offer if you currently are not in a special offer/deal for your landline, and that will get round the problem of incurring a connection fee.
Have you already placed an order for the home move?
Cheers,
Stephanie

I haven't phoned back yet to place the order for the home move (tiling and plastering taking priority!) but intend to do so asap.
I'm concerned that we may be in a 'special offer' situation at the moment as a monthly "promotion discount" of "inclusive UK evening and weekend calls and mobile saver deal" of (-) £3.87 and "broadband cashback offer" of (-) £5.54 appears on the bill.
I see from the T&C's of the free installation deal that:-
"7. Customers who are still in term with some other residential offers are excluded from this Special Offer"
However it is not clear which offers this covers...any ideas?
Thanks

10 calls a month every month pitfall
**************************
Important potential pitfall on the deal - the how many calls you need to make to avoid getting charged installation fee later potential trap! The article
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/free-BT-line-installation
doesn't mention that you need to make 30 calls a quarter or 10 calls a month DEPENDENT on how you pay your bill. I strongly advise you check which payment plan you are on and how many calls you are expected to make each month. If it's a monthly plan they expect 10 chargeable/inclusive calls a month. On the phone BT told me I cannot just make 30 calls in each quarter whenever I like, they have to be 10 calls in each month of the quarter. Another BT person told me it was merely 30 calls a quarter, as did another. In the end, it'll probably be up to you to get it right - or they probably slap you with the installation charge of £122 etc as a penalty. The below from their Notices page. See point (1).

Now its just my broadband to sort out
Think i was a bit ahead of myself there - the chap was meant to call me back as i was unsure whether to take BT Vision or not - the call never came.
So i've just called up the number thats quoted here and spoke to some guy who tells me i have to pay for the connection unless i go for the complete package then I inform him that i've seen it on the net that i dont have to - he then cuts out on me!!!0 -
Hi cactuskate,
Sounds like the house is coming on nicely!
Thanks for getting back to me, I can't say for sure without checking your account, but it does sound like you may have a special offer or deal on your account already, and if that's the case you'll not be eligible for the free connection offer... drop me a PM with your details if you want and I'll take a look!
All the best,
Stephanie

Hi everyone - this is my first post on the site, which is just fantastic! I've already made £125 by swapping bank accounts, & I'm about to save loads with the free BT connection offer. I just have a query on the terms regarding chargeable calls, which I'm hoping someone might be able to help with.
My plan was to go for the free weekend calls option and use an overrider for daytime & evenings, but I was persuaded by BT sales to take the free weekends & evenings option with an additional monthly fee based on my estimated daytime calls.
This works out at:
Line rental: £12.50 (or £11.50, as I'll be paying online)
Unlimited evenings/weekends: £2.95
Predicted daytime call charge: £4.05
Total: £19.50
I phoned them again last night to check, and was clearly advised that I would need to make 10 chargeable calls per month or else I'd be charged for installation. Based on what I've read here, I think I should still go for the basic package, i.e. free weekends, but if anyone could confirm that absolutely, I'd be really grateful! I have until 12 noon tomorrow to cancel, but I'd really like
to get it sorted tonight before they close at 9pm. Any help most welcome!0 -
Welcome to the MSE forums Lookout.
Good grief. How many more BT staff are going to give out that twaddle? When are their going to train their staff properly?
The calls can be inclusive or chargeable (or a mixture of both types).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
