jate wrote:is that safe to let someone remotely into your computer? my computer knowledge is not very good and chippy has been helping me for the last 24 hours but l do not think I will get the hang of it, I have tried and tried to download that budget sheet but l do not think its meant to be for me.
Remote assistance is safe If thats wot you meant, As their is an Option to
cut the connection to the expert on remote at any time, its a good tool
in the right hands, also .xls sheets I would trust a unzipped one as I always
virus scan everything I download...0 -
Chippy,
Thanks for earlier info. Yes i can get the file by right clicking and saving it. Deleted what i could in the registry editor as described in the link you provided me but still not working im afraid?
It would also appear that after deleting the plugin folder it re-appears when i restart my computer?
Thanks in advance0 -

Chippy_Minton wrote:No, you can only buy it on a CD and it costs about £160. It's cheaper to buy Office 97 (which includes Excel) from eBay. Alternatively download the free OpenOffice which can handle Excel files.
I managed to download office, but when l tried to open the budget file, it was blank apart from the explanation on how to use the budget sheet, can you help again... please0 -

Chippy Thanks very much. Info in link didnt quite work , but gave me some clues as to where the problem lay. All working now (I think the problem was down to the Opera browser that I had installed) Thanks again and for your patience.

Sorry if somebody has already posted this, but I've found you can use the spreadsheet in Open Office without making any changes - the menu shortcut buttons (which give the javascript error) just jump between sheets, you can manually do this by either using the next/previous sheet keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Pg Up/Pg Down keys), or opening the navigator window (compass icon on toolbar), then double-clicking on the desired sheet to select it.
The totals are calculated as you enter them, so as far as I can tell (I may be wrong - oddly enough that happens a lot! ) the only part that doesn't work are the command buttons on the front screen.
Hope that helps!
Now I've realised I have absolutely no idea how much money I'm spending each month on things like food shopping- I really need this spreadsheet!0 -
Excellent 'budgeting' tool!! Many thanks.
I did see somewhere in the last 17 pages I have read through ( :wall: ) the reasons why the sheet is password-protected, which I can understand. However, I also saw a comment that said any suggestions for future versions would be considered.......
.....and so my suggestion (or question, I suppose) is......
Would it possible to have a vesion of this sheet that has all cells except the description boxes protected? This would allow users to personalise the descriptions allocated to cells but still maintain the protection of the formulas etc. I'm no Excel expert but I know it's not too difficult to achieve;MS_Office_Assistance wrote:
1. Select the entire worksheet by clicking the Select All button (the gray rectangle directly above the row number for row 1 and to the left of column letter A).
2. Click Cells on the Format menu, click the Protection tab, and then clear the Locked check box.
This unlocks all the cells on the worksheet
Note If the Cells command is not available, parts of the worksheet may already be locked. On the Tools menu, point to Protection, and then click Unprotect Sheet.
3. Select just the cells you want to lock and repeat step 2, but this time select the Locked check box.
4. On the Tools menu, point to Protection, click Protect Sheet, and then click OK.
Note In the Protect Sheet dialog box, you have the option to specify a password and select the elements that you want users to be able to change. See Protect worksheet or workbook elements for more information.
The above was taken from here .
Waiting in anticipation with fingers crossed...............0 -
