I went back to Mr T's to get the £448 refund on my £349 computer.
The Electrical manager was called for and at first he mis-heard my figures and said that I had got it cheaper until I pointed out the receipt said £448 and the box said £349.93! After producing the PC from the boot of the car I received my refund straight away with no arguments.
Then I was a little cheaky and asked if I could pay the difference and upgrade it to one of the packages with a TFT screen. The very nice lady on CS to me upstairs to the girl near the PC's and explained what I wanted to do.
I scanned in my PC and we returned it to the stack of them on the shop floor.
I then perused my options. To my surprise the £499.94 PC was on the shelf with the SEL stating £349.93!!! So I took one of those off the shelf and returned to the till. She re-entered the barcode number from the returned PC and then scanned my new purchase. She then said "Ooh it's the same price have I entered the number right?" I then checked the SEL again and replied "that's what it says on the shelf" She said okay, gave me my new receipt for my warranty and I left a very happy chappy!
I now have the £499.93 PC for FREE!
I couldn't believe my luck and I bet you lot can't either!
So if you want the £500 PC for £350 then get to Bar Hill quickly as the PC prices are likely to change at any time! What to, is anybody's guess!

That's text book money saving !! :D:D
Drat and Double Drat, curse that Mr T excuse for not giving me a refund.

statutory rights are as follows. if you buy something and you take it back to the shop and say that you changed your mind, you didn't like the colour and you want it in blue, or its a kids movie and you wanted a horror, or you already have the CD and bought another one by mistake, your staturtory rights are tough titties, you bouthg it now.

shops are only obliged to give you a refund or exhange if the product is either A) faulty B) not fit for the purpose of which it was sold to you.

any stores who do allow you to exchange because you changed your mind are doing you a favour, as you don't have any rights to a refund / exchange

Just to note, if there is an advertised policy to refund or exchange an item if you change your mind, which Tescos have, as stated on the boards around the stores, and also within there detailed manuals at HQ, then if they do not adhere to this then they will have breached advertising regulations, which have legal implications. So that statement although in the most is correct, it is not entirely correct.

he wanted to only refund the difference so I said forget it refund me and put it on my credit card. the young fella was all confused.. i think he was a part timer and said never mind and refunded the full amount. then I said well do I get to keep the cd's and he said. yes and pointed to the policy on the wall and said the policy was changed 2 months ago but it has not been advertised anywhere.

NOPE Total fabrication rang Dundee yesterday to confirm the R & R policy and it has NOT been changed. Also looked on website and it is still there as well in full view in public domain.

I agree. it is a discussion area after all...I just felt that a couple of posters were ganging up on -Tony- and getting too personal by referring to his previous posts. Thats why I said it's not very nice :naughty:

My point of view from my limited recent experience is that some stores take notice of overcharges once pointed out, and others dont seem to care at all.
Personally I think my taking advantage of r&r does make a small difference sometimes and rectifies the stickers/SEL's at least on a local level, but certainly not always.
I would take advantage of this policy whether it made a difference or not, but at least I'm honest enough to admit it! I just like free stuff!!!
I do get indignant about the number of overcharged products that appear every week without fail though...and I do think it's unfair that a company that makes 9 million in profit can't get their prices right nor correct them even when their errors are pointed out time and again.

I apologise if I've offended anyone today, I just don't like people being ganged up on and it appeared to me that that's what was beginning to happen. No hard feelings anyone I hope :o

Well said, For my part I would just like to go shopping in the knowledge that I am paying the correct amount for my purchases, without having to closely scrutinize my bill. This goes for all retail stores + insurance + dredit cards + banks [but don't get me started on them] and yes honest enough to admit have taken advantage of the misprice but only on goods I need for me or family, have also pointed out underpricing to CS several times in Mr T's. Staff on Cs desks are really in a no win situation, when faced with customers like us who know the policy but have to follow managers orders, who perhaps have said, tell them 'policy changed' 'only difference refunded' 'sorry bulk buy'. I bet they could cheerfully strangle some Dept managers some days. OH walked round one store the other day [treated him to breakfast credit where due Mr T's are superb and excellent value for money] and he could not believe the number of wrong prices, said in his day[regional retail] the butt kicking would have started from GM downwards whom he would have made floor walk to check each and every price. As he said getting it right is not rocket science. Will get off my soap box now and carry on stripping wallpaper

Don't get me started on the subject of banks, you'll just never stop me ranting, twice in a week those guys have tried to scr8w me, and not just for a few pence either. Also it wasn't an easy mistake to spot either on both occasions. I have concluded that these large companies all take the mickey and most of the time they get away with it, because its time consuming to check stuff, and often its damn difficult to spot an error, and then to get it rectified.

I see that Tesco's are launching an in-store catalogue operation like Argos, comet etc........

Not only will we have mis-prices but perhaps an RO list just like the argos thread Hehe!!!!
  • A word from the Forum Team:

Let's be very clear here. Mispricing policy is something which is set down by the store for the consumer to use. Theoretically, every consumer in the UK has a right to be covered by that policy. Therefore, if people use MSE as an information tool to pass on information, that is what this site exists for.

It is the retail outlet's responsibility to ensure that their prices are correct. For everyone that uses MSE to take advantage of this policy, think of all the people who simply accept the misprice at the till because they are too worried to complain.

We have never, and will never, advocate doing anything illegal. The ethos of this site is to make more people savvy consumers and using a retail store's own policy to save us some money is neither illegal nor shady. Now, morally how the individual feels about taking this opportunity is purely up to that person. As far as MSE is concerned, this isnt a moral issue, it is one of consumer rights and taking advantage of what we can to save us some money.

The bottom line is that if you don't agree or like what is being suggested, don't do it. That is entirely your perogative and we respect your opinion. For the rest however, this is an entirely legitmate way to save money based on a legal, clear retail policy.

Maybe they would like us to consumer test it before release for a small charge to charity.

They know we will be doing it anyway for personal gain after release.
