Oh dear...my poor veg seedlings...
I can't believe my harden off veg seedlings are under 1 inch of snow. I wouldn't mind but i looked up the BBC weather in this area and it didn't say snow at all here, it just said the lowest temperature would be 0 degrees which i felt would be ok. I would have moved them inside my cold frames if id have known. I hope thay…

Beware sudden weather change this weekend!
Just thought I should remind/warn people NOT to put out their seedlings this week during this lovely warm weather as it's due to turn nasty and wintry again this weekend  According to GMTV weather forecast the next few days are about 3 degrees higher than usual, but by the weekend we're in for an arctic blast…

How can I spruce up my yard??
I have made a start on my yard, got a honeysuckle ready to train to grow over my shed, few pots with bulbs waiting to come up, and one has a bottlebrush plant in it. I need to liven up the walls a bit. I painted them creamy yellow the other year and still have paint left to touch up places. I would love to have my yard…

Moving/Splitting Bamboo?
I have some lovely looking Bamboo in the garden (it was here when we bought the house and has been growing well) however it is getting a bit too big for the area it was planted and is beginning to block the small grass pathway. I also have an allotment and thought it might make a lovely screen around some of the plot. So…

Miniature/Patio Roses
I have a feeling I have asked this question before but a find hasn't found the answers! Was out in garden pruning various plants today. Miniature/patio roses I planted last year have a huge amount of growth on them (and flower heads appearing!). Do I prune them down hard? I only have experience of rose bushes years ago…

Top tip for veggie/fruit netting
Instead of spending £3-4 a metre on the proper garden netting stuff I got some scaffold netting (off ebay actually) for £20 for 50 metres (2m wide) + p&p. It has a fairly small mesh size, 2-3mm, so its great for the job. Hopefully should be fairly robust as well due to its intended purpose, not tried it out yet only…

cheapo propagators
My local pound shop (thing it's Poundland) have packs of 10 clear plastic food containers. They're not much good use for food, but they do make excellent propagators :)

newbie with lots of BIG seedlings
Another newbie here, with lots of full window sills lol. My 4 yr old was dying to get sowing and boy has she got the touch. The dwarf peas she planted are really doing well and are in flower!!!! Wondering if I need to try to cross pollinate them by hand or if they will wait until I can get them outdoors. Think I will try…

Worm wee as foliar feed?
My mum's wormery has gone into overdrive, and the worms are doggy paddling in the liquid fertiliser they are producing. She's run out of plants to water, and is wondering whether it could be used as a foliar feed on her daffs etc?

Prepared for tonights weather
It was getting very cold at around 7pm and sworried about my little pea seedlings that I planted out only the other day. So have put some glass jars over the seedlings as well as some inners from kitchen roll. Also found that the slugs have been at them already so put three beer traps down with T.value beer. Hope they…

urine and grass
Bit of a strange one... We have a patch on our lawn that has strangely grown loads compared to the rest of the lawn. Last night my husband admitted to me that he had been weeing on it when he was desperate and he didn't want to disturb our toddler when he had just gone to bed. It may just be coincidence, or does anyone…

Box plant
I have had this shrub for about 4 years now and it hasn't grown a jot in fact it looks decidedly unhealthy and yellow about a foot in height maybe a bit less. It was one of these in a pot in a frame to grow into a shape (a dog! - I thought it was cute at the time) we repotted it when it didn't grow and removed the frame so…

Planting a new hedge - windy site, next to very small stream
Hello, We would like to plant a hedge that won't grow too high (we don't want to lose the view beyond) but would act as a bit of a wind break (so preferably quite dense) to our garden. It's to the right hand side of our back garden and on the other side is a small narrow stream. We'd love to provide some food and a good…
