Tax Credit Renewals - support thread

Options
Hi :)

After reading several threads regarding this years tax credits renewal it seems to me that renewals are taking much longer this year and people are spending a lot of time worrying about why it is taking so long. I have several theories about why this may be, it could be that they are getting ready for the new universal credit and ensuring that all details are correct or they may have changed the procedure for checking details at the end of the year to ensure that claims are correct (especially as this is one of the government objectives, to reduce claim errors and increase compliance activity).

I do agree that they should be closely checking all claims for any fraudulent claims - its the horror stories that you read about innocent claimaints being put through a lot of stress that makes me worry.

I know that I have been 100% honest regarding my claim - I don't know how I would cope with the delay if I had either intentionally or unintentionally informed them of the wrong details. I personally know that it is easier said than done not to worry about these delays. Especially as last year I renewed on the Monday and on the Thursday I had received an amended payment in the bank.

So here I am, not particularly worried about my renewal whilst feeling concerned about the delay whilst feeling slightly irritated by the delay!

Anyway I'm sure there are plenty of people feeling the same or similar so I thought perhaps we could offer each other support while we are waiting!

I renewed on the 23rd April by phone and have not heard anything so far, I was told not to call back until after 21st May if I had not heard anything. I do claim childcare.

  • I renewed on the 27th and was told not to call back till 4th June. I earnt a few grand more than estimated and am still being paid at the rate. Hope it sorted soon so I don't get overpayments. I too have childcare.
My friend renewed 20th and she has been underpaid by quite a lot he has not heard back either and she called to be told its still not updated! Not to ring till after 4th June she has child care.

    So for
Two different reasons we are both keen to hear back!
  • I've rung tax credits and it's no updated he said my new award will not be sent till after 11th June. Not to ring back meanwhile my old payments continue occurring an over payment as I've estimated higher earnings that have not been updated - weird said normally two weeks why he said he can't tell me any more info!
I rang a direct number I have to see the opening hours and te poor guy answered must have been having his breakfast.

I renewed by phone on the 8th May, I was told not to call back until the 4th of June.

I have been underpaid by almost £3,500, I have no childcare.

I last updated my details with them in January, although I did get a new award notice in March.

Last year like the OP I renewed on the Wednesday and by the Monday the week after my one off payment was in the bank, although it was only for £240. Not sure if it may take longer this year as the 'potential' payment is alot more.

Anyway hope it is all sorted out soon.

Neither myself or my workmate got a renewal notice, is that strange at this stage of the year?

i know its usually 31st July before the deadline, but it is usually april you can renew from isnt it?

(im not overly worried as we havent had our p60s yet)

I am pretty sure that notices are sent out between April and the end of June... i would contact them in July if you still haven't received one.

No , it isnt strange that you havent received your renewal pack yet. I think they are sent out anytime up to June(ish) time and then you have to have them sent back (or renew over the phone) by 31st July.

My Daughter has a baby and lives with myself and my Wife. She received her renewal pack in the post 1 week ago whilst my Wife and I are still waiting for ours to come.

The renewals are done in stages to avoid everyone trying to renew at the same time which would cause havoc considering how many families receive tax credits.
  • yes its normal not to receive till end of June.

They send out all on the highest tax credit first apparently.

It would also appear that they have a specialist renewal team this year randomly checking claims which is why they are giving longer dates to wait before renewals are done!

I looked at the renewal thread for last year and all the people told not to call for 6-8 weeks were the ones claims were not finalised for weeks if not months and some had paper work requests like P60 Pay slips bank statements utility bills and child care invoices.

Not sure that is 100% accurate georgiasdragon.... my claim is really quite low i do get a small about of childcare but mine is reduced quite a lot due to my earnings.

Also last year i do remember being told that it might take up to 6 weeks to process my renewal when in fact it took 4 days.

What we could do with knowing is if anyone has had their renewal processed this year.
