We were sorting out all our old tins of paint yesterday and we noticed the newer tins had a warning on the can - 'Sensible Precaution' - explaining how to transport the paint home. Now I feel guilty that we were laughing about the fact that they have to write such warning as clearly it is needed:rolleyes:

Once you leave the store, it's your responsibility.

Please go easy on the OP, it wasnt ALL their own fault we have all had crappy shoping bags split occasionally.

Did the paint have a handle? If so then sorry, I would say it's your fault. Why do you think it had a handle on in the first place! Try to complain, but I think you may be ignored.;) If you were travelling on the bus, some bus companies do not allow paint on as it's a fire risk. Say that you wanted to disguise the paint?

If no handle on the tin, complain away! Get receipts for your clothes that were damaged (You will need to prove they were damaged! They won't just take your word for it). Hopefully you kept the bag & tin as evidence. Justify your time taken to clean up the mess. Detail it all in a nice letter with photos of evidence, include what your are looking for from them (be reasonable) and send to Wilkinsons HO and give also give the Store Manager a copy. Don't waste time over it, do it NOW as complaints lose momentum the longer you delay them.

If you'd paid for the bag you could have sued them under the Sale of goods act ~ not fit for purpose. ;)

its probably pointless in me writing this but i would have doubled the bags up or even tripled it,

The OP just mentions the tin was bagged up which to me says it was put into 1 bag

Yes, it does read as though it was only in 1 bag, that's why I said a sensible person would have double/triple bagged it, as the OP should have done.

If I was buying a tin of pain and the assistant only put it in 1 bag, I would have double/triple bagged it myself. They bag items up for you trying to be 'helpful' it doesn't mean the way they do it is the best way, people should also take some responsibility for how they carry the goods they just purchased, so the OP should have put it in extra bags.
