If you are working all those hours then where is your money going?
Perhaps if you made a few cutbacks and compromises you could afford a holiday occasionally, it's clearly important to you.
I agree. If youre qorking 60 hour qeeks and cant put away some money to a holiday then there is something seriously wrong. Either youre not earning above minimum wafe which you need to address or you have a lot of debt or outgoings to pay.
Holidays dont need to be expensive. We flew to thailand, flights cost is £1090, we did splash out on expensive hotels, stayed in £100 a night (5 star) hotels some nights and scrimped in others £25 a night. You can get by £25 a night your entire trip if you want0 -
I can't really tell what this thread is, a complaint about friends, a moan about public sector pensions or a moan about how hard their life is. It's probably a mix of all 3. I agree with some of the others too, I recognise these posts too.
Are your friends actually bragging or are they just telling you about what's happened in their life?
I also don't think this adds up. You're earning what appears to be £year 27k a year, your wife is likely earning a similar salary. This is easily enough to afford a foreign holiday each year so what are you spending your money on? You do seem to be avoiding this question so I'm not holding out much hope of getting it answered but we'll see.
The only piece of info you've revealed is kids. Having kids is a luxury and you have to accept a reduction in disposable income if you have them. If this is unacceptable to you then don't have kids. Having 3 kids is definitely a huge luxury, you could afford several nice houses for the money you've spent on them.
Anyway most of it comes down to life choices. Your policeman friend went into the force knowing they wouldn't earn a great salary in return for a difficult job but they would gain a good pension. You had exactly the same choices in life, you chose to go down a different route.
I've got a good pension but I pay more than double what both you and your employer pay combined. I won't apologise for my pension, I work hard for it.0 -
Well spotted.
The same person.
Even down to the 'eat me alive' sentiment at the end of both initial posts.
How sad that someone is so eaten up by jealousy that they have to post the same thing under 2 usernames.0 -
I don't know how much the taxpayer aka my son's employer is contributing to his pension...I just know he pays a whack into it himself. And I still think this is a &*£# time to be bemoaning about police pension.
The actual employer contribution rate is higher, but that is to fund notional past service shortfall, which doesn't benefit existing staff and is primarily a function of HM Treasury decision to change pension scheme discount rates in actuarial assumptions.0 -
Defo the same, if you google "Muscle750" it's a username used on camera forums elsewhere.
He has had a trip to London as there's a photo of Tower Bridge on there so at least the OP is getting a holiday after allThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

Yep, thats the boyo0 -
OP, given that you are very clearly avoiding the relevant questions, it seems that the reason that you can’t have a nice holiday is that you and your wife are blowing your relatively good wage, and have been doing so for decades. If you spend all that you earn, and have never put in the effort to be on much more than basic wage, and if you’ve had three children, then yes, you’ll not be so well off.
It’s down to choices though. You and your wife need to stop the cocaine, gambling, escorts or whatever it is that you are wasting your above average wages on.0 -
