Thanks Sal. I get a bit down about it because I ran my first ever 10k in what I thought was a respectable time of 66mins and now I'll have to do all that work again.

Plus I blame the flipping endorphins for my current state:p

Hope you feel better soon :grouphug:

    Woohoo, we have another runner!

Sorry to disappoint but its at least a week before a marathon is likely! :poh booger I better cancel my application then?  :D

Now, just a bit of a question about what you actually did? Was that 1min running, 3min walking repeated 4 times? yes it was

If so, and you do see this sort of thing promoted all over the place, I cringe to see people doing these sessions especially on untrained muscles. It is too hard and too dangerous in terms of potential injury.

Instead, I would always say pick a distance 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 mile whatever. Then jog very easily (the longer the stride length and the faster you run the more risk of injury) for as far into the route as you can comfortably manage. Don't push it beyond where you feel comfortable - you won't gain anything from doing so!

Once you've stopped, walk the rest of the route. Do not restart jogging because your muscles will be contracting quite tightly to protect themselves and that means you risk causing more muscle tear.

Over 1 mile you will burn the same calories no matter what proportion is walked or run. And personally, I think you should look to increase the amount of walking before jogging to strengthen tendons and ligaments to make you more ready for running later. Most of my current training is walking as you'll see from the diary.

So, well done but, because as I am injury averse in the extreme, I would suggest jog then walk sessions rather than jog, walk, jog, walk, jog etc!

Like Maz said below this post of yours,I am not capable of running for any longer than this at the mo:cool: and distance isnt that important to me at the moment.
I would much rather say "only 1 minute I can manage that":T

I currently do a fair amount of walking anyway....so not dissing what youare saying cos obviously you are more of a runner than me but it suits me for now.

But you do have my permission to gloat if i do pick up an injury:eek:  :D

I think it just might be a different cold/man flu ;). You'd better all hope it's not the deadly H5N1 strain of man flu. Then you'd all be sorry!

Don't worry about other people's achievements, Sally. It's not a competition. Everyone's got their own aims and targets and you'll be out running again soon!

Isn't all man flu potentially fatal? at least until the miracle cure of a night out with the lads/some unmissable sport event/tasty wench offers itself at which point all symptoms miraculously vanish as if they'd never occured...

Oh yes, man flu is still not understood fully by the world of medicine. Recovery can be incredibly quick and start incredibly suddenly. Still, who are we to question this force of nature?

If your wife to be is anything like me sympathy will wear out pretty quickly and you'll soon rather hoover than have man flu;).

In fact irate spouse/partner is one of the best and longest lasting cures known..

    This is her reaction:

Besides, I don't lay it on thick like many I know!

P.S. I did say: "who are we to question this force of nature?" meaning we should all accept it and not question it. End of. ;):rotfl:
