Oof that's a big fall. And there was I, just about to open a S&S ISA for the new tax year. Has anyone else been considering alternatives to cash savings? It would be handy to know what the stock market will do next...if anyone has a crystal ball!

I will do... when I have enough cash savings...! I wouldn't put anything into an S&S ISA that I wanted back out within 5-10 years, so that you don't have to care about the monthly/yearly ups and downs.

Update form completed - no. 16 reporting £688.82 this month, taking my total £1651.19. 25% of the way through the year, 27.5% of the way there to hitting target! :D

Bit of a rollercoaster month - a big credit card bill, time off sick for the wife (unpaid sick leave) cost us big time, but bonus helped save the month and keep the savings rolling. Banked £700 of my bonus and have left a healthy amount in the current account to see us through while my wife hunts for a new job on more hours, which will help going forwards.

No more bonuses to come for 2018, so I'm probably a touch behind where I wanted to be. April will see me opening a new S&S ISA with Orbis (to take advantage of £100 matched offer) and regular saver will be increased to £250 a month.

#20 checking in for March (form filled in)

Another bumper month for me. No council tax, no unexpected expenses (well apart from flights to Ireland for a wedding in April) and a cheeky bonus has meant £2680 saved in March.

Next month isn't going to be as good with lower wages and higher expenses. Council tax will be back and got a spendy wedding and spendy hen weekend to deal with in April.
I'll also be back down to my normal base salary with no prospect of further bonuses for the year, though in the new tax year I think my take home pay will be a couple of pounds higher than it was.

1/4 of the way in and target very much on and 'The Future Fund' is growing steadily despite a minor dip in the S&S ISA. This is my first set of dips (not been in the market that long) and I'm wondering how much more to chuck in the S&S ISA before the end of the tax year.

Is it ok to join? I’ve been doing the frugal challenge since Jan with unexpected ease and success. Hadn’t realised how much money I fritter away each month. I work part time, relatively well paid, in an unrewarding and stressful job I have come to loathe. I don’t have any debts apart from the mortgage, which I’m overpaying. I’d like to save £10k a year on top of that so I can be a step closer to quitting work for good!:)

#112 checking in with £853.53 for March. This is unexpectedly high because we didn't have to pay council tax or water this month, and then right at the end we got some expenses back that DH incurred in January. April will be much tighter with us really having to try to make some extra savings. I think we are up for the challenge though. Especially before holidays happen in the summer!

#38 declaring £1208.21 for March.... no council tax, the mythical YouGov £50 payout, and annual cashback off the Amex....

Add to that saving a ton on my car insurance by changing my policy to what I actually need and being able to put the savings towards the house deposit... not a bad month!
