Hi All,
I am new to the site and forum. Would it be possible for me to join in. Also what is the 1p a day challenge apologies if this is a stupid question. I have recently semi retired and have just opened regular saver with first direct 300 per month i would appreciate any advise on how to cut back and save money thank you.
If you look up Save a Penny a Day in the forums, it is another saving goal where you put away 1p extra each day so 1st January 1p, 2nd January 2p, etc all the way up to £3.65 31st December. The idea is that you won't miss the extra money if you keep putting it away each day.
That is the theory but lots of people do it different ways, I do a week of small amounts and then a week of large amounts otherwise by the time it gets to December you are needing £20+ a week which might be tight at xmas time!
I hve created a saving account to store it but some people do money in a jar, idea is that by the end of the year you have £600+ to either spend on xmas or just a nice little saving pot to continue!Grocery Challenge 2019 YTD-£820.46/£7200(11%)

BILLS BILLS BILLS!!! God i hate March! :rotfl:
#136 with saving of £500 this month. Absolutely crap being that its a 5 week month, but bills are now paid and skip hire as an extra this month. Onward to April.
Thanks SF xx
My March is getting worse!! lol. DH unfornatly drilled through a heating water pipe in our front room had nice amount of water gushing out all over my cream carpet and im currently awaiting a costly plumber to fix it today . These things happen, but it just HAD to happen this month. My vax hoover (battery) is also stalling so is on the way out, also just got CC bill through the post... March can suck it
No more OP this month for above reasons, let's all put this month behind us and push on to April. Im doing a 'freezer/fridge/pantry' month, got soooo much food in the house, could easily use it and not spend so much in April. That's my money saving plan! :money:

Oof that's a big fall. And there was I, just about to open a S&S ISA for the new tax year. Has anyone else been considering alternatives to cash savings? It would be handy to know what the stock market will do next...if anyone has a crystal ball!Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.0 -
Excellent month for me one way and another, despite it having looked a bit poor at the start. Lot's of overtime came in, and I had a promotion which has impacted my unsocial hours rate quite nicely. I've managed to put a grand aside which I am for the time being keeping as cash in my ISA whilst I decide what to do with it. I too have taken a bit of a hit on the funds I held, but only to the tune of about £100. I had already paid that amount in this month as a set contribution, so the two pretty much cancel each other out. Still, not looking to cash anything out in the near future, so it's a storm I can ride out for now.
Will trickle a bit more off the credit cards and that is me for another few weeks until April's pay check! Last of the bills coming then which is the motorbike insurance and then nothing all the way through until October which should accelerate my savings further. Happy days.0 -
