Due to a house of 5 and SWW online-line comparison Calc saying if we each showered everyday and flushed the toilet 4 times each a day and i did 12 loads of washing a week and 7 loads of dishes...we will be looking at a £1200 bill a year.0

Why not try it? It's free to install, and if you spend more then you simply revert to RV billing within the first 12m.No free lunch, and no free laptop

The online estimator is a load of codswallop IMHO. Anyway, I think when you do go over to a meter then you will consiously use less water as you know you are paying for it, which is all good for the environment blah blah.
Don't forget you have the choice to revert back to RV if you are not happy with the way its going, this has to be done within 12 months, also there are gadgys out there which will aid you in using less water, mostly you can get these free, lost count of the shower airiators I have,
.
One last point, my mum used to have a 28ft x 12ft swimming pool and she was on a water meter, even filling this up once a year cost her less than if she was on the RV system. :eek:0 -
And why exactly would it be a load of codswallop? It's in SWW's interest to get everyone on a meter - they're not going to OVERestimate meter usage. Family of 5 on SWW water - you have my sympathy!0

The online calculators do tend to be pretty good as far as I can see, about 60 CM2 per person per year give or take the usage.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

I have a 4 bedroom end terrace house, with 2 toilets. My household consist of 3 adults and 2 children. My water bill from last Feb to this Feb (actual reads beginning to end) was £297, total units used 55. I am with South West Water
It can be done. (think it helps having 2 teenage boys who despise water :rotfl:)
My neighbour down the road has just had a water meter installed, he lives in a small 2 bedroom house with just him and his wife, last years waters rates cost him just under a thousand pounds for the year, now thats what I call shocking :eek:
do you have a septic tank fitted ? My single OAP mother in-law has to pay £25 a month (metered) as she's a very low user but the standing charge alone and all the added cost's like the added water sure payment (that goes towards help those that p*ss there water rate money up against the wall) makes her's £250 i would say her's is about as low as it get's, i find it hard to see how a family of 5 would be paying less £50 more a year on a south west water tarrif.0 -
How do you find out what the RV water charge for your property would be?
I'm with Severn Trent on a meter and I used 10.00 cubic meters in the last 6 months. I'd like to know how much I am saving compared to what the RV is now.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

It comes to something when you have to decide if you can afford to flush the lou, or take a shower or bath! and we are supposed to be one of the "rich" nations. All this to fill the pockets of the shareholders. I have lived and worked in many countries within the EU and NONE charge what we pay in the Southwest of England.When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0

In short, you can't. If your propert is a new build or has had a meter more then 12 months there is nothing to check. There is no RV anymore.
Although 10cm2 is nothing. It is expected that a single person will use 60cm3 a year so I really really doubt with that low usage you would ever be better off on RV billing.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

I have just added up standing charges for previous 12 months and they come to £57.37 so not sure where you are coming from, and no septic tank in this house
though if it's yellow it does mellow, but if its brown we flush it down, been doing this for over 8 years now and have not succumbed to any diseases, although will flush when we have visitors.
Our payments now have gone down to £26 per month and are in credit still of £50. I also have meter fitted in cloakroom so when someone has water on in house it does tick over, so I know that readings are correct for our house. Nothing more I can say really just that I know if we were back on the old RV system we would be paying roughly £1000 per year.:eek:0
