I have just completed online estimator for South West Water, I have double checked figures with my OH, he came up with roughly the same answers as me, total estimated usage for year will be £623, my actual yearly bill has come to £297.0 -

Although 10cm2 is nothing. It is expected that a single person will use 60cm3 a year so I really really doubt with that low usage you would ever be better off on RV billing.
I know I'm better off having a meter it was my choice to change over.
I was just curious as to how much I'm saving by knowing what the other un-metered properties in my street are paying.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Problem is that the rest of the street can be very different anyway. Only way forward then would be to ask your neighbours and see if they would share their bill amount with you.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

I have just added up standing charges for previous 12 months and they come to £57.37 so not sure where you are coming from, and no septic tank in this house
though if it's yellow it does mellow, but if its brown we flush it down, been doing this for over 8 years now and have not succumbed to any diseases, although will flush when we have visitors.
Our payments now have gone down to £26 per month and are in credit still of £50. I also have meter fitted in cloakroom so when someone has water on in house it does tick over, so I know that readings are correct for our house. Nothing more I can say really just that I know if we were back on the old RV system we would be paying roughly £1000 per year.
Meter charges are as followed, standing charge, volume charge, watersure tarrif annual charge, and a extra charge for those classed as high user's 50,000 cm+ (taken from SWW summary table of charges) the average SWW metered bill is £424 according to the website, so i take my hat off that you manage it so much cheaper.
Spoke to DH last night about going on to a meter and planned to give it ago now we found out we wouldn't be stuck with it, but im so glad that you found a flaw in SWW estimator calc...as felt rather faint when we had a play about with it with the numbers that it was bring up

our bill this years is £433 and this is just water (no sewage or run off charges) I would hate to think what it would be if we were still living at the old house with sewage as well :eek:Debt Free...yay! 10/09/2013 :j

Radio Cornwall's phone in during the week found a number of 1-2 person households whose new water bill has come in at £1300-1400/year.
I think one bloke said his bill is just under £1100 - and they can't fit a meter as he has 3' thick walls and his house is built into a hillside.0 -
Just did some basic sums on this.
One last point, my mum used to have a 28ft x 12ft swimming pool and she was on a water meter, even filling this up once a year cost her less than if she was on the RV system.
Assuming the pool is a uniform 4' deep all the way, 28'x12'x4' is 1344 cubic feet.
1344 cubic feet is 40 cubic metres.
With SWW you're charged for the water in and water out - so guessing the "1 unit" charge per cubic metre as being £3, it'd cost £120 for each fill up.
Obviously the actual figures would need to be adjusted for the true figure as I guessed the depth of the pool and the cost per cubic metre with SWW.0 -

This was about 7-8 years ago so probably less than this, but yes I think her annual bill used to be about £400 on water meter, whereas if based on old rates then she would have been paying about £500 a year. Mind you new neighbours moved in next door and allowed her to fill up from their house as they were on RV system.
all for the price of quick dip in pool. 0 -

Then he can apply for assessed billing. I don't see the relevance of the wall thickness, as a meter is normally fitted outside the property. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Living in the South West, we are certainly going to get a meter installed this year, forms arrived yesterday, and change back if it works out more expensive, although with the following link looking at future expected rises between meters and RV, those on RV are certainly going to be hit hardest in the next few years. We currently pay £66 a month on RV and 4 of us in an end terrace, with the increase this next year I have been assured by a mate at SWW we will save money. And if we do not we will swap back to RV
