Hi, I'd like to be able to check my broadband speed. I'm with Telewest, (unfortunately) and am supposed to have 1MB broadband. However, I don't trust Telewest as far as I can throw them, so how can I check that I'm getting what I pay for?
N.B. I'm not a techie. I'm don't even live in the same street as a techie. I have trouble working my phone. Please be nice to me and take me through it nice and slow!
Thanks,
MBE
P.S. Away for the next 24 hours, so won't be replying for a bit. Cheers.

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Why dont you like Telewest? I can tell you from loads of experience with ADSL and Cable your on the best package available in my opinion. With telewest you get speed increase for FREE!!!!! Not sure of any ADSL providers that do that.

This shows you that your 1mb connection will soon be 4mb at no extra cost. This isnt the 1st time telewest have done this.......Also as a online gamer I know how rock stable the pings are compaired with ADSL. Simply brilliant service....0 -
I think its more the point of get an independant review as I wouldn't
trust a home grown Telewest speed test.0 -

this is said to be a very accurate test.0 -
Well, after doing that test, I am a very happy bunny with my 2.272mbps service - it's almost teatering 2mbps atm.
As most of you know, your rate varies... keep on trying:

That zdnet test is pants. I've just tried it, and it tells me my connection is 3709.1 Kbps. Now if I was on 4Mb broadband. That would be OK. Seeing as I only have a 2Mb connection (and this is the maximum for my line), this is impossible.
The speedtest at ADSLguide is the most accurate I've seen so far. I just tested with them also, and got 1904Kbps. Which is the right speed for my connection.
I would advise anyone that took the zdnet test to try the one at ADSL guide. It gives a far more accurate result. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I agree ADSL has never gave me a bum reading.
