Which light bulbs?
I have GU10 fittings in several rooms - the bathroom has recessed spots, the kids' room and the kitchen have light fittings from B&Q and Ikea. None of them are fitted with dimmer switches. I want to phase out the halogen bulbs, as they burn so hot and they don't last very long, and I was going to replace them with the…

Working holidays for a family
Does anyone have any idea which UK organizations offer UK based working holidays for familes (2 adults, 2 kids - 15yrs and 10yrs)?? There appear to be thousands on offer overseas for families, and thousands on offer in the UK for adults/teens - but nothing for families in the UK! An ideas gratefully received...

TV programme about foraging for fruit
I'm just watching a programme on the BBC about foraging for fruit which is then passed on free of charge to the local community, but I can't seem to track anyone down to ask questions. As I have a glut of figs rotting on the tree (I can't abide them!) I would be interested in getting in touch with any such scheme as they…

Renewable energy, advice needed for a company scheme
Hi, a slightly different tack to the usual "should I go for renewable energy" thread. I work for a company that's trying to be more environmentally friendly with different schemes and incentives and I have an idea for them. heated airers for drying laundry
I came across an electric airer yesterday. i was going to buy one, thinking it would save putting the central heating on in winter. But i would probably use both. Has anyone got one, and would they recommend? It is apparently about 1p an hour to run, but i'd like to know if it's worth the initial outlay. thanks in advance…

Organic deodorant - any recommendations?
Please can some of you recommend an organic deodorant. Over a period of time I have been switching all of my toiletries over to organic products with great success, except for deodorant. I have tried Yaoh - didn't work at all, Jason - reasonably OK (not as organic as I would like!). I am currently using a salt stone, which…

Astonish cleaning products
Please forgive me if this is a well known brand, but i have done a quick search and it's not come up. I am really chuffed to find this brand. It is good quality and only £1 a product. I found it yesterday in a poundy shop, then saw today in a 99p shop, and also noticed it in a corner shop! It's BUAV approved, it works, and…

E cloth vs Spontex Kitchen Wonder?
A green but slightly naive friend of mine spend a small fortune (they worked out at £5 each, I think) on dishcloths. These were uber-green, apparently. Needed no chemicals. Used micro-fibres etc. Well, I picked up something in Tesco today called the Spontex Wonder Cloth. It was 99p. And it looked and felt EXACTLY like the…
