regarding crystal deoderant.. I bought one a few years back and read that (assuming this is the alum crystal block type deoderants) they are used widely in asia where they will buy a block or lump and then add it to water.. Anyway I bit the bullet and dissolved my entire 'block' in a squirty bottle of water and it is still going strong.
Considering how expensive they are to begin with, it is vastly cheaper used that way. It would be useful to have some sitting in your prepping stash to use that way as it is so long lived once diluted.

I have been a crystal deodorant user for several years now. I used to cover the bedroom carpet in Sure for decades before that, and I am surprised just how effective the crystal is. OK it doesn't smell nice like a spray deo but it goes on and on and on.... Last time I bought one on the buy one, get one for a penny offer at H & B and quite honestly I think the two will see me out!

The thought never occurred to me of dissolving crystal deodorant:o.

Was it just a case of "plonk in water and wait"? How long did it take? How much water did you use?

Also a crystal deodorant user. Costs quite a bit but lasts for years and years (Unless you drop it on a hard floor - ask me how i know :o)

I only use 'normal' when i teach and when i fly - excess adrenaline. And even then more for confidence (in not smelling, not crashing :p) than actual need....
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    .

Well now we know if it happens again to pick up all the little shards and dissolve it in a little spray bottle. It's also useful when you get right to the bottom and I don't actually remember doing that, it's so long ago since the last one expired!

I have never heard of crystal deodorant. I will have to order it but because so many of you thing it's a good product, I'm going to try using it. It looks to also be a money saver. Thanks all!

Hmm cant remember how long it took to dissolve. I put the whole thing minus its container in a spray bottle with a litre of water.
It was several years ago and I have about 1/3rd of the bottle left.
I had one of those 'hits hand on forehead' moments when I read about diluting it. It works very well for feet too if you suffer with perspiring tootsies making your trainers niffy.

:) The one I'm using is actually made in Thailand for UK company F@ith in Nature and is ammonium alum (the mineral salt). 3.5 oz/ 100g and I paid £3.92 in an independant health food shop.

It's worth remembering that it's a deodorant, not an antiperspirant-deodorant, as most conventional products are both. I have to admit I've known about these products for years but been a bit skittish about trying them, as no one wants to be a bit smelly, do they? :o

It's working for me but I don't know how they work for people in very hot climates like mila's New Mexico. Perhaps she can road-test crystal deo and come back to us? But perhaps be careful about wording any online searches, don't want the forces of Lauran Order thinking you're after another kind of crystal altogether.:rotfl:

The useful thing is that they are shelf-stable and won't go off like conventional deo, which helps us preppers. And I've seen a small version for travel, which would also avoid problems with transporting liquids.

Pleased to hear that they are so long-lasting as this will save money and also save packaging waste over time. Win-win.

International media etc seems to have stopped talking about Peak Oil. Suddenly that's gone out of fashion and I'm wondering why - because it's still going to happen. All our power companies are foreign owned, and nobody - in or out of govt - seems to have noticed that either. In a few years time we're going to be out of the EU yet all our energy is going to be in EU hands. What's to stop them setting a higher tariff for us than those at home? What's to stop them switching us off if supply gets tight in a bad winter? And what have you, personally done to prep for this?
Say it's the second week in Jan, and the whole of the UK has had record low temps since just after xmas. (Up here we've been down to -19C more than once). The Continent is hit by the same record low temps, and all the power companies reduce supply. Your lights flicker and glow orange, your gas central heater won't ignite, your electric hob takes 20 mins to heat a kettle..
    What would you do?

:) Boil a kelly kettle for tea. Maybe put the cookset on the top of it and heat some food. Retire to my bed in my small snug bedroom and hibernate.

Given the smallness of the flat and the superb insulation, it never gets really cold in here.

I have just bought 8 LED hurricane battery operated lanterns at 75% of during the Prime sale yesterday.
I will next buy the burner that Bob posted a picture of recently. I bought one for my daughter's Bday, along with a box of twelve propane bottles to keep with it just in case. I have it on my watch list so I can get it at a sale price. I watched a YouTube video of someone canning (bottling) food using a big pressure cooker on one.

Off to look up Kelly kettle.
