I can hardly bear to watch the news. Targeting ordinary people going about their business is beyond contempt.
How does everyone else get their better halves on board with prepping?
Something has to happen before MrD stops telling me I'm a nut job.
e.g. burst water main in the next street - we still have water
Then it's "Oh, good thinking"
Luckily, we used to go camping so we already have quite a bit of stuff and I can do a bit of secret preppingNot dim.....just living in soft focus

Presumably he's on board with the water now?
For groceries just tell him you hate food shopping, so when you DO go, you want to make sure that you stock up properly. And that you want to have a few things in that mean if you're feeling ill/tired/lazy you don't have to cook. Or that you want to take advantage of seasonal bargains so you'll have e.g. fruit for smoothies in the winter if you freeze the excess now. Bulk buying TP can come in to the CBA to go shopping category (I order mine online a couple of times a year). TBH even if it's not prepping, having some kind of stock in of basic stuff in makes life easier, allows some flexibility in meal planning and spontaneity in inviting people over (I can feed a houseful easily, once i've got over the panic of suddenly finding another half dozen or so people here unannounced for several meals).
Camping stuff gets you away from having to suggest that cooking on a camping stove in the garden would be fun.
You have to work out a way to communicate what's in it for him. So what matters to him that will be made easier through the preps you put in place? Fewer shopping trips if he hates supermarkets? More last-minute camping trips?0 -

Food and household stuff isn't really a problem as I've always kept good supplies from living in a village and not being able to drive.
I've just not changed those habits when we moved
It's more document copies and things like that. I could do it but would like him to do things with me.Not dim.....just living in soft focus

Try to think of situations where it would be useful for HIM to have copies. e.g. car insurance policy in file at home AND in car - so you can swap insurance details if you're in an accident, or look them up at home even if the other one is out in the car.0 -

If the car is stolen, the thief will know the name of the RK, and be better able to bluff a police officer who stops him.
Me I keep the policy number and the contact no to hand. Mainly in case I have a breakdown as I am covered for that through the insurance.0 -
Hopefully the occifer would also check the driving licence or other ID (especially if the car has been reported stolen) and notice if the names are different.

There are usually places you can keep documents that won't be obvious to a thief. Took me ages to find all the hidey holes in my car. And I know people who have kept them under the mats or in the wheel well. But you certainly need to have at least the contact number and policy number. I'd also consider having your own emergency contact numbers in the car. The 'ICE' thing in phones isn't relevant to smartphones as they tend to be secured with passcodes/biometrics.0 -

You have a cat - she judges you, believe me.:rotfl:
I have occasionally caught a look on The Queen of Sheba's face (parental mog, mongrel oriental) which makes me very glad I outweigh her measly 4 kg. Then, it's as if she registers your reaction, and goes oh sh*t, nearly rumbled, better switch into cutie-pie mode, purr purr.
Re lost blank passports, that's a diabolical lapse in security and heads should be rolling. But it isn't unique. Local authorities in this country were sent a circular a few years ago advising us to be very wary of anyone presenting with French ID documents as the French government had managed to lose several hundred thousand blanks.
Makes your blood boil when you think of all the hoopla you have to go through to get a passport, all the fussing with your photo being just so, and then they allow the blanks to be lost......... ! Words fail me.Actually, they don't fail me, but they would fail the sweary filter.
Been gardening this evening and have started the lavender harvest, having given one of the six plants a radical haircut. Got loads of the lovely stuff. Smells lush.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
