I'd be interested to know the reasoning behind your OH's comment - ie the "We could be at war tomorrow" one.
what makes him think that? i'm not following the steps in that reasoning...
He thinks with a new PM here that if a decision was taken to put ground troops in now for instance in Syria then parliament would probably back it given what's happening in France etc, and also that we can't afford for Turkey to become destabilised. Its kind of like our barrier against 'that' side of the world.

I know there's going to be some kind of trouble sooner or later with our elect and gas supplies. We're thinking of putting in another coal bunker here so we can stock up more.0

In the event of a water shortage, a useful thing to have in stock, is a lot of aluminium foil.0

A year or so ago I read a theory that time is speeding up - ie that major events are occuring in shorter and shorter timelines. It included some graphs comparing current and past events (hey don't ask me to explain it, I'm only the messenger!). But it does feel at the moment as though events are crowding together. One wonders what the next day will bring.....
Nick Abbot of LBC actually started last night's programme by listing everything that has happened over the past few months.
As for Boris Johnson - bet he doesn't know what has hit him. All this right at the start is either going to be the making of him or his undoing.
Meanwhile there was a recent item on the news about the price of fresh food imports going up considerably due to the weak pound and just today I saw a claim that transit through the Bosphorus Straits has been affected by the Turkish situation.
Times to ramp up the stocking and preserving I guess. .0 -
!!!!!!?!
We will now interrupt proceedings for a commercial break:cool:
Just spotted that Theresa May has dreamed up a gold star excuse not to Brexit - being she says she will not trigger the formal exit process until she had agreed a "UK approach" with leaders in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Sitting here thinking "Your days in power may be limited lady if you try and pull that one on us". We voted Brexit (ie as a united country) and Brexit it will be.
Someone bring on the fan/iced water/etc to prevent me heading for London and not in any sort of conciliatory mood if she pulls that one on us all.
'Scuse the rant - I'll just go and see how lunch is doing.....:cool:0 -
Why don't you just do that then? You go off to London and hit the doorbell and demand to see her, then come back and tell us what happened0

Extra coal bunker sounds like a plan, mardatha.
And an extra sweetie cupboard, too, for special preparations for extensive periods of snowfall.
Be interesting if May thinks that some parts of the country should hold sway over the whole country. Given that the vast majority of the UK's population don't live in those regions anyway. And that 40% of Scots voted brexit.
Seems a foolish game to play, unless she intends that Brexit fail (risky) or that Sturgeon et al hold her over a barrell with a no-devo ref no brexit assent deal. May's no dummy so she must be playing some deep game.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I admire your confidence.
Pity it's an interwoogiethingie conversation or I'd offer a small wager - that by 2020 (the next general election? ) nothing will have changed in real terms, only in name: possibly EEA rather than EC, still contributing to the 'central fund' etc.
In three successive days we've had May's selection/reshuffle, Nice and Turkey - all the main (only?) story on the relevant day: I wonder what other news went quietly unreported?
On a prepping note - many (myself included) believe access to cash could become a priority for numerous reasons - computer hacking/crashes or power outages taking out ATMs, bank bail-ins restricting withdrawals etc - so keep a stash of coins for 'no change' purchases if tills aren't working so I save my coins, preferably £1 & £2 coins.
Since before the Brexit vote I haven't seen a £2 coin: presumably others are quietly prepping in the background.
Unless it's a local condition - what say other prepping coin gatherers?0 -
nothing will have changed in real terms,
There'll be on obvious exception of course: the not so gradual erosion of our civil liberties and freedoms in the name of 'security' as a result of incidents like Nice (& Turkey!).
The establishment have a wary distaste for aggrieved disadvantaged citizens coupled with pitchforks - the don't like it up 'em!0 -

I got two in my change yesterday, and another one this morning.the not so gradual erosion of our civil liberties and freedoms in the name of 'security' as a result of incidents like Nice (& Turkey!).
