A(n attempt at a) coup, then? I bet you'd be glad to not have to go out for a while in those circumstances.
I don't think we're going to forget 2016 in a hurry.0 -

I don't think we're going to forget 2016 in a hurry.Yup. I suspect that when the history books are written in a generation or two, jolly old 2016 will seem a pivotal year. I get the feeling that the remaining 5.5 months won't be any quieter, either.:(

Yes, what a year....the deaths of so many big names, the EU referendum, the changes in government, more terrorist stuff happening......and there's still the US election later this year, how will that turn out? We are living in a state of flux, prepping becomes even more important. One life - your life - live it!0

We have at least a Foreign Secretary who isn't short of something to say about the Turkish president ...
ETA: There's nothing like getting thrown in at the deep end, is there? I think that people are going to get an early chance to show what they're really made of.0 -
!!!!!!! Then I think someone ought to check the bank accounts of the staff for strange deposits.
BTW, you know that Syrian guy on BBC news who flew to the UK on a false passport to claim asylum. Why was he not returned to Belgium?
FTA regarding the passport blanks being lost...
Now I'm sure you know that all passports have a biometric chip in the back. Thus unless that chip is actually linked to a real person, the passport won't 'scan' when you go through passport control.
Therefore, it's even worse than losing the blanks. For them to have been worth selling, the blanks must have been made into duplicates of real people's passports!
Imagine if a terrorist got hold of a duplicate of your own passport, and committed an outrage? You might arrive home to find the place being torn apart by anti terrorist police!0 -

This is not a scenario I had even thought about happening. Wow!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Morning all.
Have been woken at silly o'clock (over an hour ago) so decided to give up on attempts to sleep. Another sunny day, Turkey's coup may have failed but no one seems quite sure. Life gets more interesting by the day.
In terms of international security, there seem to be utterly ridiculous things going on all the time. If Joe Soap wants to take his family off on their holibobs, they all have to have passports, all go through security checks, there's fretting about the size of your shampoo bottle and the confiscation of manicure implements and the whole process is micro-managed to the nth degree.
Yet if you've got a few thousand £££, you can get yourself brought illegally into the country by speedboat. Or, for a smaller fee, jam into the back of a truck or into a shipping container. We pester legitimate citizens of our country going about their lawful business to conform with very high spec security methods and yet have almost no control over the country's very borders. Is it just me being a (sometimes) grumpy middle-aged woman or is that absolutely insane!?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I know I'm another middle-aged woman - but nope....WE are the sane ones here GQ. We get checked out to the nth degree whilst "the other b&ggers" get up to all sorts.
Though do spare a bit of sympathy for anyone that ever copied off my passport at the amount of effort I personally would put towards finding them.......I can't think why:cool::cool:;):cool: .....0 -
