She's keeping an eye on the numbers of tinned and jarred frankfurters, BB. If levels fall, expect repercussions.
Her own prepping involves, should you two be shut in together and you die, that she will dine on you.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm reading The Fist of God by Frederick Forsyth, and it talks about the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The British (and of course other foreigners) had to go to ground in their homes for the duration - and things got pretty bad. They had to depend on the goodwill of their neighbours for even food and water. When things go wrong and you're in a foreign country then you're really on your own aren't you.. and that let me to wonder what happens now to al the people who bought houses in places like Bulgaria ?0

I've holidayed in Bulgaria. And some locals talked about the very issue of Brits buying village homes as holiday places.
They weren't jealous because there had been a massive haemorhage of Bulgarians from villages to towns and cities a generation prior, due to lack of work in the countryside. They couldn't afford to live in areas without no work and plenty of villages were depopulated with only a few grandmas and grandpas living there.
The Bulgarians told me that many of the village homes being sold to Brits were in villages with a predominantly roma population who would burgle and strip the home shortly after the Brits left left their holiday place for the season. They thought the Brits were total fools who were being taken for a ride by the Bulgarian second-home industry.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

The entire world seems to have gone mad this year. More so than usual
I didn't know Turkey was having such problems. Has this evolved from the previous terrorist attacks?
The photos from Nice are heartbreaking.
Whole countries seem to be on edge and I do not like the vibes.
It all seems a bit shades of 1930's
Just seen this again and have posted it on the prep for winter thread as well

On a lighter note nobody would steal my passport - the photo is appalling :rotfl:Not dim.....just living in soft focus

This is exactly what I've been saying for a few weeks Doveling, the world is like a see-saw and dips either to the good or to the bad. But once it gets too low on the bad side then the pondlife swarms on board the see-saw and it floors. Odd mix of metaphors there LOL but you get what I mean.0

Morning all. I don't have a passport so have to stay here and batten down the hatches whatever happens in the world. Except that I have been a bad prepper and this week ran out of bleach and toilet roll (down to last two rolls). So today is big shop day. I'm planning to get in two months supply of basics to survive.
Thank goodness there's fresh stuff in the greenhouse and garden at the moment.
When we saw the news last night, DH's first comment was "we could be at war tomorrow". Shocking. Wonder what this attempted coup does for Turkey's attempts to join the EU, if there is an EU to join.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
The founder of the modern Turkish state very much wanted it to be a secular country but the current regime is moving rapidly towards a religiously-run country.
I have concerns about religious types (any and all of 'em regardless of flavour) being in charge of political decisions. Too much irrationality in high places is hardardous to civil life, and particularly hazardous to the civil and legal rights of the female half of the population.
Plus, if you factor in that Turkey-brand religion is very different to the predominant other European-brand religion, you have a whole world of difficulty if the EU tries to absorb a religiously-run Turkey into its club.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'd be interested to know the reasoning behind your OH's comment - ie the "We could be at war tomorrow" one.
what makes him think that? i'm not following the steps in that reasoning...
Mind you - it's ironic that it was only days ago that it was being warned France might end up in a state of civil war because of etc etc. Then what happens? The carnage at Nice.....
....and you wonder whether that French Minister (?) was correct...0 -
Doveling Thank you very much for posting that link. Looks as if we'll have to get a Kelly kettle or something, to be on the safe side  I'm so angry that the government has seemingly sleepwalked into such a situation with our energy supplies. They seem to have had an attitude of "Oh, it'll probably be all right in the end."
Let's hope for a mild winter.0
