Having pots for tea freshly harvested from the garden for tea, and got a spam slab from mils to enable us to adjust the height of the waterbutt so it hopefully won't keep overflowing.

Won't animals come and nibble at the spam though? :)

:) I'm drying the lavender and am going to use it to stuff lavender pillows and sachets, most for me but some for gifts. I have pretty pieces of fabric in the stash which are too small to do much with but, with bits of ribbon trim and lace also from the stash, will do very nicely.

I like making things but I have an adversion to going to places like ObbyC**ft and dropping mucho moolah on the makings. To my tightwadded way of thinking, crafts should be about using stuff you have and can grow/ find etc.

I'm also planning to get some tansy which grows on wasteland and dry that and add that to some lavender in anti-moth sachets to keep with my woollens. I shall glove-up for that as I believe tansy is one of those herbs which can do that thing with photo-dermatitis. Some of you will recall the fun and games I had with parsnip sap last July and the nasty burns I got on my hands and wrists where it reacted with the sun.

So, for tansy, I plan to use disposable gloves until it's safely dried out.

Because you can line pans, baking trays etc., thereby eliminating the need to wash them.
Following various studies on the leaching of aluminium from foil into foods - I'll pass. Though it goes without saying I have a hat made of the stuff

I'm not sure if Boris was meant to be Foreign secretary - I heard someone saw a bit of paper which said ,"Boris Johnson F. Off' and thought it meant Foreign Office!☺

I missed the bit about you drying lavender, GQ - I'm definitely going to dry some of mine this year, and I'm going to experiment with it in a few cakes and whatnot - seen lots of recipes around, and it really doesn't need much - 1 or 2% on commercial products from Norfolk Lavender :)

:) I once had a lavender-flavoured scone in a tea-room in York. Couldn't resist the opportunity of eating something like that (was young and impressionable, lol). It was all right but a bit odd-tasting.

I'm very pleased with my lavender bushes which were bought late last summer from Liddly, three for £2.99 if memory serves. I shall try propogating some cuttings this autumn and see if I can create enough new plants to infill the gaps in the row of them stretching across the lottie as I'd like it to be a semi-solid hedge.

Not all lavender is edible - maybe best to check first.
