That's so funny Nonnadiluca, though not so funny for you, of course.

My husband's speciality is deciding one suitcase is enough for the two of us, packing far more clothes than he's going to need, then wondering why I'm not impressed with the one-fifth of the suitcase he's left me for my own stuff.

:) One holiday my Mum decided to let my Dad do his own packing. He forgot pyjamas. They were in accomodation which wasn't en suite, so he had some 'interesting' nocturnal trips down the hall to the bathroom in her spare nightie. He never made that mistake again.:rotfl:

Re getting OHs on board with prepping: I've come to the conclusion that it's all down to me otherwise we'll be up the creek and he'd have forgotten the paddle! We've just got back from holiday - I sorted the money, travel insurance, everything for the dogs, packed my clothes and the toiletries and he had to pack his stuff. He forgot his deodorant so had to use mine, took about ten pairs of underwear for a week then told me this morning that he left half of his shirts and t-shirts behind in the wardrobe of a bedroom we weren't using. I didn't know he'd put them there!!!
He is wonderful in many ways, but when it comes to preparing for anything I think I 'd better do it myself!

Will hubby be wearing your clothes then? :)

:) Where's your sense of fun, BB? It's not often a respectable married man gets to wear a large T shirt style nightie with pink flowers on it, is it?:rotfl:

I was stewarding at a large event in Newcastle yesterday. It happens every year. For the first time I saw armed police both on the March and at the field afterwards. This was because of Orlando. There were twelve and a half thousand on the March and 38,00 on the field.

Because of prepping I knew what to keep on me if I had to make a quick exit. Plenty of zipped pockets. Where exits etc were. Mainly being switched on with eyes and ears while stewarding on the field. I felt sad that armed police were needed but better to be safe.

Probably because of Nice also. Sad days for us all. You are smart to be aware and ready in a large crowd like that. We all need to follow that example.

It must be two years now since I mentioned on the old thread that I was going to plant some green Jersey Royal potatoes. Nothing at all came up last year, and I thought they must have rotted away...

However, I was just cutting the grass this evening, and I saw a plant that looks suspiciously like a potato!

Amazing that it has survived all this time. I'll keep you guys posted.

What are you doing to prep financially? Does everyone have debts paid off? An EF fund? Money at home?

I'm working on all of these and am in better shape than I was. My car will be paid off in October and that will be a huge relief. CCs paid off in two months. I need to have a hidden nest egg at home with small bills and change. The thing is, we use the debit card now and don't get change like we did before. I need to take out cash for use, like GQ does. Do many of you use cash?

I would say the answer to that question Mila - ie of using cash - is that peeps often advise on this thread to operate, to some extent, on a cash basis.

Cash being "under the radar" spending basically - and no-one can keep tabs on your spending. Well certainly some British supermarkets keep tabs on your spending at least (ie T*sco) and it does feel somewhat intrusive to have this happen. Though I don't have to worry about HMRC (our tax people) trawling through what I spend at T*sco and wondering how come I'm managing to live to a higher standard of living than my income would indicate (as my stated official income is the only income I have and I'm therefore living in accordance with that). I don't work/have never worked in the Black Economy :D - so, from that pov, I'm not bothered if they do.

Hastens to add - nowt being implied about anyone on this thread (my thoughts are on just how many people I've encountered/heard of doing so near me since recent move).

From an MSE pov it helps to restrict spending if one is doing so in cash - because it feels more like spending money than just taking a debit card out of your purse to pay and it doesn't quite impact in the same way emotionally to use a piece of plastic iyswim.

There are a lot of people (myself included) who, though we are operating 100% legitimately, don't like the thought of our "privacy being invaded" by TPTB being able to figure out pretty much where we are and what we are doing by our expenditure pattern (the "Oh yes...I can see Money was staying in location x, eating at place y on such-and-such a date" sort of thing.

EDIT; Though I think one of the main reasons peeps like to have cash on them is in case the cash points "run dry" at any point. We've seen what happened in Greece. We've seen cash points very nearly get to "running dry" in our own country. Hence having some cash on us.
