OS - FRIDAY 27th JUNE 2008 - JACKIE'S G&T DAY

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

¡Hola! Buenas Dias - Viva España:T :T :T

Here again, the heat has woken me up again, when I came down at 6 am this morning it was 20 outside and 28 inside:eek: , all doors and windows are now open and all the fans are on - Managed to get the inside down a little outside the same atm, but sun just breaking through so looks like another hot one (Sorry GB) say 36 on one of the digital readings yesterday. This I think is unusually hot for June:o . Had a glass of orange juice - no not freshly squeezed as machine too noisy for this hour. We realised yesterday that today we have been here 4 weeks:rolleyes: how this has flown, and by this time next month will be back Sunny Donny:cool: - well OK probably Rainy Donny  :rotfl: :rotfl:My only beef at the moment, is that is it really too hot to do anything, we started walking and it was helping the weight/fitness but unless it is before 7.30 am or after 9 pm there is no chance.

Thanks all of you for the responses yesterday, and yes Anniestar - agree with you on "do it now". Hence our being here now, we decided we could cope until "real" retirement, probably as we do not have a high maintenance lifestyle, i.e. we don't smoke, breweries would go bankrupt if they depended on us, yes we do have a drink, but not much and not that often at home. Not into far reaching holidays - we went to Orlando 10 years ago, but have no desire to return.

:j :j DS's GF got her results yesterday and she got a 1st - he is so proud of her. :j :j

Yesterday was a very lazy day, on here, basic clean up/tidy. sitting chilling under the shades (drinking coffee - talking to neighbours - letting in telephone engineer for neighbour - talking to pool maintenance guy to practice some Spanish), lunch of bread and cheese, a hour in sun, an hour in the pool to cool ourselves down after being in the sun. Shower change - drive into the town to collect a certificate from the builder (They had the original of this which needs to be put with our deeds out here, but had kept it and given us a copy! Now have original and they have a copy) - too hot to stay in town, came back retired onto the patio for a cold drink, Wimbledon, (missed Nadal:rolleyes: ) before getting ready to go out to eat at the local bar - where live music was on - and the footy! All the ex-pats and visitors had got behind Spain as no UK team in the competition. Sunday should be Manic. Especially as many out here are German - some of them told us they would have prefered to play Russia.

Today need to put a load in the WM, and a bit more of a general clean/tidy once DH awakes. Still zzzzzing (loudly). Think a siesta this p.m. may be in order.

Congrats to P-P daughter's team - I liked rounders, and also to Jackie-0 coming to the end of her Chemo/Radiotherapy - The glass is waiting out here. Susey Sue 15 years with nothing against you on your record :A

 Welcome Newbies

Glad your carpets came up well GB - Hope you have accidental damage cover on your household insurance Smokybabe - sounds like you need it with LO.

Someone mentioned Carnation Milk Rice Pudding yesterday, I have a Tower SC recipe book from my original (too many years to mention) SC which has a Rice pudding to made inthe SC with Evap Milk - if anyoneis interested I will post in on my return to the UK. Let me know.

  Anyone else not mentioned by name

Apologies for this being piecemeal - but with this connection, it is the only way and also apologies for no thanks - it works rarely.

Take care and have a good Friday DG

Morning Donny, Redruby & all to follow

Jackieo - enjoy your G&T, I will too join you in a toast this evening but I will be having vodka

What a lovely weather it is today - has been all week really - Donny dont know about the rest of the country but we are hitting the early 20's each day and at the moment the heat has none of that humidity.

Plan to do normal - housework and office work. Hope to get a lot done today so can chill at the weekend. OH is round helping someone lay some concrete, DD & DS will be out with their friends hopefully so I can get some peace and quiet. :j

Yesterdays meeting went ok, we did get a small increase not enough to cover the increase in fuel but better than nothing. We have a few bad weeks to get through and afterthat still need to look at reducing costs further but I guess everyone is doing that.

Off now to finish my tea and have a surf before anyone gets up.
Have a great day all & (((hugs))) to anyone who needs one.

Will be raising a glass of wine this evening for the lovely brave Jackie-O, what time shall we say, around 8pmish

Went out last night and had a 3 course dinner and wine (all paid for by work) as 2 of our longest serving employees left. They've passed the batton over to me - I've been there the longest now :D

Sainsburys are delivering my shopping this evening, so the cupboards will be nice and full. Tea tonight will be teryaki salmon, green beans and new potato salad.

Last day of the week :j

Have a great day everyone (((((hugs)))))
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

I'd love to raise a virtual G&T to jackieO, unfortunately has to be virtual and not real, but the sentiment is still the same. well done on finishing your treatment.
well done ms PenPin too on her rounders success.

today I am very worried again. will be phoning round for a lawyer as soon as they open at 9. have taken a day off work to get this sorted. sometimes this place seems like a little oasis of nice people, where the world at the moment feels a big bad place for my family.

hugs to everyone who would like one.

Hi everyone. Donny, I love the title of today's thread! Onwards and upwards, Jackie0, we are all thinking of you today, G&T at the ready (but I won't drink it just now IYKWIM!)

Donny - sounds idyllic where you are. Next year you must hire a coach and take us ALL with you!

Overcast a bit here today but the sun is peeking so there's hope for a good day. I'm hoping my ex-boss doesn't ask me in to work again today; the person I covered for yesterday had an upset stomach. Previous experience tells me that whenever she takes a Thursday off, she doesn't usually return to work until Monday! Perhaps I'm being uncharitable? Anyway, I can't go in today - DH is going to France tomorrow so I have to organise him for that because he is working all day.

(((Hugs))) to SMOKY, GRANNYBROON, PENPIN, BETH, ANNIESTAR, MRS MIX, CANDYGIRL'S DAD, JACKIE0, POPPYOSCAR, JAYWARD and anyone else who is unwell or anxious.

    CHURCHMOUSE - :hello: :hello: :hello:

I have lots to do today to get DH ready for the off tomorrow morning; he is sailing on the 8.45 to Caen, staying the night at our hovel halfway down France, picking up his friend then driving down to Mont Blanc to help his brother. The weather is in the 30s there at the moment; if they get too hot working they can always jump in the pool, then carry on working!

Anyway, I'd better go and get him up and get the breakfast on.

By the way, I ordered a Remoska from Lakeland yesterday! I bought the standard size, got 4% off via Quidco (as long as it tracks, of course), and had a choice of free gifts so I also have a block containing three pairs of scissors woth £8.99 on the way, too. Free postage because the order was over £50. Can't wait to get it and at least I'll be able to practice with it while DH is away and cover up any disasters.!

    See you later.

    Morning all
Went to work yesterday to find both my chairs broken, so I spend an hour kneeling on the floor checking emails & sending jobs to the machines over the network, then I lost my rag & told them I would go home if they didn't find me a new chair ASAP. It isn't a school I work in, it's a bl**dy joke!
I had to go back to school last night at 7 as I'd agreed to be part of a quiz night team. Thanks to this board I was able to answer a question that only 3 people were able to answer. 'What is the outer covering on the popular Australian cake called a Lammington' the answer is coconut, the other 2 who got it right are bothe Australian!
I'm off to feed the neighbors cats, I'l catch up with yesterdays thread tomorrow, hugs to those in need.

    Hello everybody,

DH just rang before and he's coming home at a reasonable hour so we are off to the Bowl's Club for tea. I know, I know, I'm trying hard to curb my excitement. :D So I will be first cab off the rank and order a drink  to Jackie O. Had a lovely Ninny day. OS had day off and came up this arv to use the internet. When it was time to go, DGS wanted to go with him :D so he left around 3.30pm. OS was none too pleased. :p I've been doing a bit of sewing since then.

Don't think DH is working this weekend so if not, we have plans on going to town tomorrow as he wants to get some gardening supplies.

HH Well done. :T It seems a very easy question to me. :D
dogrose Sorry to hear that your worried again. Hope it all pans out.

Will pop back later. Hope you all have a lovely day & <hugs> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning everyone

    Thank crunchie it's Friday!

The situation is easing here - OH and I had a long (online) chat last night where he acknowledged what a monster he has been and begged me to stay with him and help him through (we did it once before, but it was nothing like as bad). My head still says no, but my heart is hurting. I have made no promises, but said I will try to help, but any of the abuse I had before and I'm out of there. I have also not said I will go in a month as I am meant to be, as I would be worried to be there, with him as he has been, with me in a foreign place.

Other than that, this weekend I'm beginning the rest of my life, because there is a still a very strong possibility that it will be without him. So tomorrow morning expensive haircut and hightlights (ok - not very OS!) and then the rest of the day Upton-On-Severn jazz festival. I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't really been out and done anything for me for ages.

Hugs to everyone else in need and thank you so much for the pm's - I will reply over the weekend. I'm sorry I have been wrapped up in myself these last few days, but it's been tough.

    Have a great Friday,

    PO xxx
