Thats a good point someone made about a counsellor. Most colleges and universities have counsellors on site now and they are free and usually don't have long waiting lists. Make use of this facility its important you talk to someone if you are trying to protect the people you love and trying to cope alone.
So you now have 2 lines of communication, the samaritans and the uni counselling service. Get your self a little stronger with their help first then you have these amazing people on here to help you tackle the finances and get them back on track so you don't feel so out of control.

Hi Mupteer,
Everyone is giving good advice and you are not alone, we are all friends here!
I am sorry to hear of the loss of your mum,but you have pulled together through that and it makes things like money seem very minor. You are feeling a number of mixed emotions at the minute and then suddenly practicality sets in, ie how will I pay the mortgage. The main thing is that you stay focused, get rest and plan a way forward with the aid of your family and the 1000s of friends you have on here. Can I just say that debt is not a respector of anyones class or status, so dont beat yourself up! Also, if a family member was in your position and asked for help, would you give it? - Well there you are then!!!!!
I hope by this time that you are getting some rest, please feel free to message me if you want! You have got some time to play with so lets get our heads togther after a good nights sleep and see what we can do for you!!!
Honey, I'm an accountant and still got into a mess!!!!
Take care and let me know if you need to chat!!

Hiya mupeteer
There's not really anything much I can add to all the lovely and practical advice people have given. It sounds like you've been hit by some of the most difficult things any of us have to deal with, so be gentle on yourself.
It's really sweet of you not to worry about burdening your family. But I'm sure that they would rather have the chance to support you through the difficulties. I'm guessing that they'd probably feel worse if they knew that you were struggling with it on your own, and would much rather you confided in them?
Whatever you decide to do, with regards to talking to your family, please, please take care of yourself. ((hug)) (I can't find out how to do those lovely cute 'hug' icons!:o )0 -

I know this is cyberland but we are also real live living and breathing people too, and we do still care that you are OK. We all have our own lives outside of here but here is where some of us share part of ourselves that we can't share openly in the outside world (no, not rubber wear or 'water sports', I am talking debt - lol)£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)
