I'm glad you've asked for some help. Hope your health visitor is as nice as one of the health visitors I had, she visited me for quite a while after I had my DD, as I went in to see them to have her weighed & burst into tears as i thought I was a useless mother!! All she did was come & ask me how I was doing, & as much as anything try & build my confidence up, as I wasn't doing anything wrong, but was trying too hard!
Good Luck & keep us posted from time to time

I too have PND and I truly could have written your post. It's an evil thing and I have a huge amount of respect for anyone going through it. This will pass, honestly it will. It's a season in your life, a nasty one, a very dark one, but it will pass.

I haven't read all the replies so sorry if I am repeating stuff.

I have been seeing a Community Psychiatric Nurse specialised in neo-natal depression for 7mo now. She comes to my home once a week and is wonderful. The word 'psychiatirc' is scary and at first I refused to have anything to do with anyone having any links to psychiatry but then I gave it a go when things got really tough. She has really kept me together and has been the ONLY person I could talk to on many occasions.
Community Psychaitric Nurses are available on the NHS - ask your health visitor.

My depression isn't 'cured' by going to toddler groups (makes it worse!), exercise (although it helps) or any other self-help things. I take anti depressants but they just keep my head above water.

Homestart is GREAT! There isn't one in my area unfortunately but if you have access to one, look into it.

Keep us posted. PM me if you like.

Another tip I was given for half-an-hour of guaranteed peace was to give the kid something they loved to eat, but was really fiddly and takes a long time - the best things are ice lollies, or a bag of crisps. A god-send when you're out shopping and you just want the little s*d to stay quiet in his buggy for a bit. Not the healthiest option, I know, but as an occasional treat when you're out-and-about it can work wonders.

    that's fab :T excellent suggestion, thanks! :D

nothavingfun hopefully the health visitor can suggest something. living in a small place with no car probably means you can't access play groups, but hopefully she will know of something. somebody i know gets a free nursery place at the surestart centre 2 days a week because she is struggling, and that really helps her. i don't know if they provide transport for her though.
