Ok forget that bit
I just enlarged the picture and that black cable looking thing is a set of headphones. However I do see there is a volume knob on the right hand speaker, this speaker will have an amplifier in it and is the speaker that requires power, was there not a lead that came from that speaker and connected to the monitor?
It has one connector that comes out of it but has 3 seperate leads.
One goes to the back of the monitor, one goes into the back of the PC (the green hole) and one goes into the other speaker.0 -
One goes to the back of the monitor,
So the one that went to the back of the old monitor, where have you got it going now?Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

That is the lead that likely supplys power as I can think of no other purpose for it, the lead going to the back of the PC (green socket) carries the sound from the onboard sound card, the lead that goes from one speaker to the other carries sound from the amplifier to the other speaker.
So the one that went to the back of the old monitor, where have you got it going now?
The one that went into the back of the old monitor is now in the back of the new monitor.
There are two holes, i've tried both0 -

Because stand alone speakers normally have their own power I'd be a little surprised if the new monitor had a power output like that, don't suppose you have a manual for that monitor? Or are there any symbols next to the holes on on it?Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

No, the person just gave us the monitor today. Just the monitor and power cable.
No symbols next to the holes at all.0 -
It says on the bottom, power supply 16v (DC)??0

I suspect neither of them is a power output, but I could be wrong. You may have to buy a pair of speakers.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I'll try some cheap speakers tommorrow. I think they have some tacky £1 ones in the pound shop, just to try out.
The 16v is on the bottom of the speakers0 -
I have some old hi-fi speakers.
Am I right in thinking these are not suitable and will blow and I need specialised PC Speakers?0
