Hi
I plan to buy a new monitor over the next couple of days but I believe their are two sorts of connections on monitors?
How would I know what sort I have? The one I have is a pin connection? Is that of any help?
I only have a 13" screen at present, so what should I be looking for?
I need under £100 if possible?
Is there anything I should look for/avoid?
I'm totally confused as the monitor has 2 wires coming out of the back - one is with the pin connection attached to the back of the PC, the other is another connection that was connected to the power supply, but now I have a new power supply, it didn't have a slot for it, so it is attached to another chord that is plugged into the mains??
Thanks for any help, I am totally confused and don't want to buy a monitor I find I cannot use.

The following shows the types of connectors and their names:
Yes you should easily get a decent monitor for less than £100.0 -
Thanks
It looks like I am a VGA connection.

Gotta be better than my current one0 -
If you right click anywhere on your desktop and select "Properties" from the menu then select the "settings" tab you should see "screen resolution" something like 1280 by 1024 pixels Since you are unsure of your monitor size it would be interesting to know what those numbers are.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I'm using 800x600 apparently.
But it can go to 2048x1536 pixels.0 -
Found in depth specs of my current one here...

But it's not well and keeps making noises, so I need to buy a new one, as cheap as possible as I am not financially great right now.0 -

WOW, 800 x 600 would typically be something I'd associatew with a small monitor, 15" perhaps, whilst 2048 x 1536 would be the default setting for a huge monitor. 26"
i currently run 17" tfts and they are set at 1280 x 1024. monitors are measured diagonally btw possibly that's why the review says 17 and you measure 13.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Unless you're really on a tight budget, I'd spend a bit more, and go for a 17" one which support 1280x1024 resolution, as tradetime suggested.
I was wrong about the prices - they seem to have gone up quite a bit since I bought late last year. Looks like around £105 is more the norm now. You probably won't go far wrong going for a products from LG, Samsung or BenQ, though the Acer at £96.99 gets a couple of good reviews and has a 3 year warranty...0 -

Yes, it's 17" now i've measured it diagonally - I never knew that and now feel such a fool
800 x 600 works for me as the text is bigger (I hope that's meant to be right)
I just want to make sure I get the right monitor for the best price as the one I am using is worrying me a little :eek:0 -
something like this perhaps
