New Monitor

Usually the front speakers are lime green, sometimes with a symbol of concentric circles with an arrow pointing out from the centre.
If still no sound, first check that the sound device is ok in Device Manager, then open the Advanced section of the Device Volume control - make sure nothing is muted that shouldn't be.0 -
Thanks, now I know what that is.
Checked device manager, all is fine.
Could it be, that these speakers being previously attached to the old monitor (they came with it) can only be used for that monitor?0 -

If you are using the speakers that were attached to the old monitor, how are you powering them?
Okay, so the technophobe that I am hasn't thought it all through...
There is no slot for the old connection to attach to the new monitor - the only connection is for the speakers themselves, no power supply and the power supply on my PC has been changed recently, so when they were attached to the back before there is now no space, so we had an adaptor.
Does this mean I can use no speakers at all on this monitor?
It seems I wrongly thought plugging into back of PC (the green hole) and putting them into monitor at the back would work0 -
I am not really familiar with the type of speakers you are using. Speakers built into a monitor will derive their power from the monitor. Speakers that are separate from a monitor and not bundled with it will normally reqiure their own power supply. There is no slot for the old connection to attach to the new monitor -Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I'm assuming that this means that a power cable of some sort was connected from the speakers to the old monitor.
Well, they are detachable from the monitor. They clipped onto the side of the monitor. They don't have a cable to attach to anywhere. Just a lead coming out of each to attach to each other and one has an extra lead to plug into the back of the PC (the green hole)
The old monitor had 2 cables coming out of the back of it. One had the blue pin connector to go into the back of the PC, the other connected to the PC's power supply, but when the PC's power supply was changed it didn't have the other connection in the power supply that the monitor needed, so an adaptor was connected to that cable and plugged into the mains.
I know i'm not explaining it very well, probably as i'm getting frustrated with no sound and I don't want to go and buy new speakers only to find this monitor doesn't do sound anyway

Sorry, am not sure, I am only familiar with stand alone speakers, they have the lead which connects to the back of the PC, and a connection from one speaker to another, but from one of the speakers there will be a power lead that plugs into the mains to provide power, I'm not sure where your speakers derive their power from, in the picture it looks as though they get it from the monitorHope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Judging by what you say, maybe they do get their power from the previous monitor. No lead, or anywhere a lead could be, is attached to either speaker.
I'll go buy some really cheap tacky desktop speakers tomorrow and see what happens.0 -

I just enlarged the picture and that black cable looking thing is a set of headphones. However I do see there is a volume knob on the right hand speaker, this speaker will have an amplifier in it and is the speaker that requires power, was there not a lead that came from that speaker and connected to the monitor?
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
