  • Could you not blag some free grub from restaurants, you know where you are having a large company do, and have to survey a few places first? One has to maintain quality standards.......

The lunch idea sounds good - I might suggest it, although we're very varied in here when it comes to lunch - some people are leftover people, others are homemade sandwiches, and some are M&S.. could be interesting!

Bob, if only I was brave enough to go and blag a free dinner.. :rotfl:

Good news this morning - had some money from Ciao paid into my bank account so have been able to withdraw £10 this morning to see me over the weekend/ next week. I might even splash out on cheapie wine tonight ;) And I was fiddling with my budget/ debt spreadsheet and realised that I'd paid off £60 more on my debt - signature duly updated. May possibly get under £9000 by the end of the year, would be nice!

    Thats good!

Lunch.... can you not do a bit of mystery shopping for sarnie places? When I go to London, btw, because I'm not really supposed to eat bread, I cook some rice with some frozen spinach, chopped carrot and cashew nuts/pumpkin seeds thrown in. Douse it in soy sauce, and hey presto, a very respectable looking lunch. Its *cheap*, too.

That sounds rather nice! I do tend to bring in leftovers or soup and bread but sometimes get fed up with that and can't resist the call of the canteen (which is overpriced and rarely very good).

I'm signed up to a couple of mystery shopping things but one is only clothes shops and the other one rarely seems to have much round here - must admit I don't check as often as I should though :o

Is the Independent free lunch thing still going or was that a one-off?

:rotfl: I wouldn't have starved, but I might have been down to strictly carbohydrates only by Wednesday.

Have put together a shopping list for about £9 to get in Tesco tonight, should be plenty to add to what I've got left at home to see me through. To be honest I think this attempt to spend as little as poss on food is a bit counterproductive at times - sometimes I'm almost scared to spend money, so I don't buy much and then have to keep going back for other things - not the best way to go about it.

Hmm.. wonder if I can pass the library on the way home.... ;)

No, just polite :D They should be pleased someone's making use of them really.. mind you if I worked in a library I'd have them all before the papers got put out :rotfl:

Likewise - might have mentioned this before but we have a box in our office full of vouchers that people have found but don't want, so anyone who will use them can have them.

Do libraries get busier over Christmas, I dunno

Been thinking a lot about the food thing today, I seem to have got very boring and repetitive with what I make, need to find some balance between budgeting and actually enjoying cooking/ eating.

Have also been daydreaming about things I had to eat in Italy.. swordfish with fresh pasta and spicy tomato sauce... beef carpaccio with lemon juice, rocket and parmesan on top... mmmmm..... :p
