mouth waters at thought...no wonder you get bored with food...Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Mmm well I spent my £9 - couldn't stop thinking about the above mentioned Italian food, so tonight I had steak with a big salad and new potatoes with some parmesan on top of everything.. lovely, and I actually feel like I've had some nutrients. Couple of glasses of wine (Tesco's cheapest) and some of the lovely coffee I bought with M&S vouchers (thankyou iPoints) a while back. I think last time I was in there was when I bought that coffee - months ago! I could spend hours (and a fortune) in there.. Waitrose is even worse for food temptation though!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Sounds good to me.... I'll have to check out M&S on ipoints - I abandoned them for ages, with about 900 points in, and now I have 2000 or so from not very much work at all....
The counterproductiveness of the grocery challenge - absolutely - its a guideline, I'm not going to bore myself to death over it. Yesterday, for instance, I did the Independent thing - and it was lovely, brie, cucumber and tomato, but it cost £3.69 in real money! No *way* would I pay that - I ate it about 5.30, but I was starving by the time I got to London Bridge at 10pm, so I bought an M&S sarnie (£1.50) and a packet of crisps .... I must, must, must cook some treats to take to London, I can't go on that train journey so late in the evening with nothing to eat. I completely forgot, because I was so focussed on the bleeping Independent offer!
Ah well.... off now to have my eyes tested at Tesco for the clubcard points. But I should be staying in and doing a matched bet! Priorities, sigh..... I don't seem to learn!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Yep, that's the trouble, when hunger takes hold, budgeting has to go out of the window! It's either that or walk round with a bag stuffed with food all day
I think I'm probably looking at closer to £200 spent by Christmas but as I said earlier I need to sort that balance out a bit. There's been days this week when I've had toast for breakfast, cup a soup and bread for lunch and pasta with a tiny bit of sauce for tea - not good (especially as like you Karma I shouldn't overdo wheat!).. and five a day... errr... so to get myself back on track I think I'm going to keep note of what I'm eating for the next few days, sorry if this is really boring to everyone else!
So far this morning - toast with marmite and cream cheese, a tomato, coffee (black as the milk has gone from fine to lumpy overnight ).
Update with lunch - salad of rocket, red pepper, cucumber, lemon juice dressing and parmesan, followed by stewed cooking apples (from friend's tree!).
Just off to PO to pick up a parcel which I think is a free bottle of fabric conditioner from a trial thing I signed up to, and then back to make a start on painting the bathroom (no doubt with many internet breaks)
Have a good day all xDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Yep it was indeed a bottle of Lenor, very useful!
Have done most of the bathroom, a couple of bits need another coat but will do that tomorrow. Had a lovely walk this afternoon, now having some tea and toast with jam (does the fruit count in your 5 a day?). More steak (no prizes for guessing I bought a packet of steak yesterday), with potatoes and peas for tea. Should probably tackle the washing up pile first but.. hmmm.. can't be bothered! :rotfl:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Hey, that sounds good! I struggle with 5 a day too - I achieve it 99% of the time, but only through constant work, my taste buds just don't go that way. So I'll get in a portion by having a fruit juice while I'm doing something in the kitchen, or chomp on a piece of celery or a carrot while I'm cooking. Handful of dried raisins on breakfast oats. Frozen veg are a godsend.
Mr T was his usual batty self - sold out of value pesto at 99p, but plenty of standard pesto available at 94p. Go figure....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've noticed that with a few things in Tesco, the Value ones aren't always cheapest
I think I could do 5 a day in veg easily, if I actually remembered to buy it. I'm quite ashamed at how bad I've got actually. I tend to underestimate how much food I need as well, which is why I keep having to go back to the bloomin' supermarket  Think some meal planning is in order, and a proper big shop when I get paid on Thursday. Expect lists.. lots of lists...Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I always look at the weight/cost ratio and try and buy the cheapest that way..Tesco are also a bit naughty for putting different weights on, some in Kilos and some in grams, sneaky eh?
Bring on the lists...have you tried mysupermarket..comparison website, very good for keeping you focussed.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
